Product Description
The Lorain MC-8150 is a heavy-duty lattice boom truck crane with a rated capacity of 150 US tons, tailored for demanding lifting tasks across construction and industrial applications. It features a square-tubular-chord boom design, constructed from high-strength aircraft-grade alloy steel, ensuring a lightweight yet highly durable structure. The crane is equipped with both a hammerhead boom and a long tapered boom, providing operators the flexibility to handle different lifting heights and radii. The basic hammerhead boom spans 33 feet and can be extended up to 90 feet using additional 10 ft and 20 ft center sections for a total jib length of 70 feet.
The crane’s superstructure includes a tandem drum design with a dual-speed boom hoist powered by metered air controls and is connected to the base via Lorain’s exclusive internal gear shear-ball® turntable connection. The crane’s lifting system is supported by a 2-speed dual drum setup with power load lowering available for both hoist drums. The boom hoist performance includes first layer line pulls of up to 30,470 lb at 166 FPM (hand throttle) or 24,730 lb at 252 FPM (foot throttle).
Powering the crane’s upper and carrier sections are two Cummins engines. The turntable engine is a Cummins N-855-C-TC, 6-cylinder diesel rated at 246 hp with a torque converter and 100-gallon fuel tank. The carrier is powered by a Cummins NTC-335, 6-cylinder diesel producing 335 hp, paired with an 11-speed main transmission and 3-speed auxiliary transmission. This setup enables a maximum travel speed of 38 mph and includes low-speed precision operation as slow as 0.7 mph.
The carrier is a Lorain-designed 10×4 configuration featuring a box-frame chassis, planetary axles, and power-operated POWRSPAN outriggers for quick deployment and secure leveling. The rear drive axles are equipped with double reduction gear drives and inter-axle differentials with locks. It has a tight turning radius of 67 ft to the front corner and uses 20-inch wide tube tires in the rear and 17-inch wide tires in front.
Standard equipment includes a telescopic swing brake, floating harness, boom stops, and hydraulic features like swing brake, harness-extending cylinder, and boom retarder. It also supports optional high-speed hoist and additional boom sheaves for enhanced capacity.
The MC-8150 offers a reliable, rugged lifting solution with excellent versatility through modular boom configurations, fast setup, and straightforward operation. Its combination of robust mechanical systems and practical transportability makes it ideal for heavy-lift projects that require both reach and strength.
