Grove GMK4060HC

Military Crane, Mobile Crane

The Grove GMK4060HC military crane was introduced in 2018. In 2019 the US Army ordered 40 of these all-terrain cranes with armored cabs. It is based on a commercially successful GMK4080-1 crane, but specially adapted for military use. Letters “HC” in the designation stand for “Heavy Crane”. Delivered to the US Army will begin in 2020 and are planned to be completed until 2025. Interestingly the US Army also ordered a Grove GMK4100B crane, which is the US version of the GMK4080-1. It will be a standard commercial crane with military paint and other minimal modifications to suit the US Army needs.

Product Description

This mobile crane was designed to operate in hotspots and warzones. It has good off road mobility and can travel over difficult terrain. It can be used for various construction tasks, including setting up areas of operation and general construction work. It can construct barriers, build bridges, handle containers and other military loads. The crane can also recover damaged, stuck or overturned vehicles. The Grove GMK4060HC can be used for a variety of other tasks and support US Army operations around the world.

This crane has a powerful telescopic boom which extends to 33 m. Maximum load is around 35 t. The GMK4060HC can be used for medium and even heavy crane work.

This crane can be also used as a recovery vehicle. It is fitted with recovery winch and can tow vehicles.

The crane can be fitted with standard or armored cabs. Armored cabs provide protection against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters and blasts. The cabs are also fitted with NBC protection system.

This crane is powered by a diesel engine, developing around 450-500 hp. The chassis has 8×6 configuration. This machine has good cross country mobility and can operate off road. It can ford water up to 1.2 m deep.

This mobile crane can be airlifted by a C-17 Globemaster III, or C-5M Super Galaxy military transport aircraft.
