Product Description
The Potain MCT 278 K12 is a heavy-duty topless tower crane designed to excel in modern construction environments, particularly those with limited overhead clearance or multiple crane operations. It delivers a maximum lifting capacity of 12 tonnes and supports jib configurations up to 70 meters, with a tip load of approximately 2.2 tonnes at full reach. The crane’s jib can be assembled in 5-meter increments, allowing customized coverage for various site layouts.
This crane can be installed on a 2.0 m x 2.0 m tower system and is compatible with multiple base and mast configurations including P 20A, P 21A, VB 21A, and BA 66A, supporting freestanding hook heights up to 64.1 meters depending on the configuration. These options allow flexible tower integration, making it suitable for both mid-rise and high-rise applications.
The MCT 278 K12 is powered by either the 75 LVFC 30 Optima or the 75 HPL™ 30 hoisting winches. These deliver lifting speeds ranging from 44 to 220 m/min and accommodate rope capacities of up to 845 meters, ensuring smooth and efficient material handling across tall structures. Slewing operations are controlled by the RVF 162 Optima+ drive, providing variable rotation speeds up to 0.63 rpm, while the 6 DVFC 4 trolleying system offers speeds of up to 120 m/min, all equipped with variable frequency drives (VFD) for precision movement and reduced wear.
The crane complies with FEM 1.001-A3 structural standards and includes Potain’s Power Control feature, which adjusts the hoisting speed based on available electrical power, ensuring efficiency even in power-limited environments. Its flat top configuration eliminates the need for a tower head, which simplifies installation and permits the use of multiple cranes in close proximity.
The modular design allows key crane components to be disassembled and shipped using standard 40-foot containers and flat racks, greatly reducing transport and setup time. Altogether, the MCT 278 K12 stands out for its balance of capacity, reach, and operational efficiency, making it an excellent choice for complex building projects and infrastructure developments.
