Product Description
The Grove GMK6450-1 is a high-capacity, all-terrain crane with a nominal lifting capacity of 450 tons (400 metric tons), making it the most robust six-axle crane available in the market. It is designed to handle tasks typically requiring larger, seven- or eight-axle cranes, thereby offering a versatile and cost-effective solution for heavy lifting projects. The GMK6450-1 represents an upgrade from the previous GMK6400-1 model, boosting its maximum capacity by 50 tons and incorporating advanced features to optimize performance and ease of operation.
Superstructure Details: The crane is equipped with a TWIN-LOCK™ main boom, which extends from 15.4 meters to 60 meters, with a maximum reach of 63 meters. Additional configurations include a luffing jib ranging from 25.7 meters to 79 meters, allowing for flexible lifting solutions across varying heights and angles. The boom elevation is powered by a hydraulic cylinder with a range of -1.5° to 82°, providing precise positioning. For enhanced safety, it has a load moment and anti-two block warning system with a graphic display for continuous monitoring of boom angles, lifting loads, and other critical parameters.
The GMK6450-1’s advanced hydraulic system features faster flow rates for smoother and quicker operations, and a full electronic control system ensures seamless integration of various movements. The MegaWingLift™ system, a self-rigging counterweight extension, can be deployed in less than 20 minutes, boosting the crane’s lifting capacity without the need for additional support cranes. This system, combined with the MAXbase™ asymmetrical outrigger positioning, allows the crane to increase lifting capacity by up to 70% on the main boom and up to 400% with the luffing jib, providing remarkable flexibility and performance, especially in wind power projects.
Carrier and Mobility: The GMK6450-1 sits on a robust six-axle carrier chassis, with all-wheel drive and steering, making it adaptable for various terrains. The carrier features a MEGATRAK™ independent suspension system, which allows for precise control and a smooth ride, even on uneven surfaces. The crane’s suspension has a range of ±170 mm, providing additional stability during travel and operation. The engine powering this carrier is a Mercedes-Benz OM473LA, a six-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 430 kW (580 HP) at 1800 rpm. The engine complies with EUROMOT 5 / EPA Tier 4 final emissions standards, ensuring environmental compliance and efficient fuel usage.
The transmission system is a 12-speed ZF Traxon, allowing for smooth and efficient travel, with the crane capable of reaching highway speeds for quick deployment between job sites. The axle configuration is 12x8x12, with steerable axles providing superior maneuverability.
Additional Features: The GMK6450-1 is packed with operator-friendly features, including an ergonomically designed cab with a tiltable seat, integrated climate control, and advanced instrumentation. Safety is further enhanced by features such as a reversing camera system, comprehensive lighting, and fire extinguishers. The crane’s brakes include pneumatic dual-circuit systems for secure operation, and the machine is equipped with an intelligent control system via the Manitowoc Crane Control System (CCS), which allows for remote monitoring and diagnostics, ensuring optimal performance.
Applications: The versatility of the GMK6450-1 makes it ideal for a wide range of heavy lifting applications, from construction and infrastructure projects to specialized tasks like wind turbine installation. It can lift 8.9 tons between 38 meters and 50 meters radii when utilizing its full boom and jib configuration of 136 meters, and can handle 12.8 tons at distances of 36 to 52 meters with a 120-meter boom and jib setup. The crane is capable of operating in wind conditions up to 9 m/s, which makes it particularly effective for assembling components in wind energy projects that demand high lifting capacities and flexibility.
