Product Description
The Link-Belt 218 HSL crawler crane stands as a versatile and high-performing solution in the 110-ton class, with a design that reflects Link-Belt’s focus on transportability, operational ease, and robust lifting capacity. The crane features a fully welded steel upper structure and lower frame, optimized for high strength and durability. Mounted on a box-type carbody with extendable side frames, the crawler tracks provide a stable base with a retracted gauge of 2.74 meters and extended gauge of 4.32 meters, allowing for excellent site mobility and transport adaptability.
At the core of its performance is the Isuzu AH-6HK1X six-cylinder diesel engine, rated at 287 horsepower (214 kW) at 2,000 rpm with a peak torque of 838 ft-lb (1,125 Nm) at 1,500 rpm. The engine supports a 110-gallon (415-liter) fuel tank and provides smooth and fuel-efficient operation with various power draw levels across typical load demands. A comprehensive hydraulic system, driven by multiple variable and fixed displacement pumps, ensures simultaneous multi-function operation with pressures reaching up to 4,623 psi.
The crane’s boom options include a tube boom extending from 40 to 230 ft (12.19 to 70.10 m), and an angle boom ranging from 45 to 155 ft (13.72 to 47.24 m). The tube boom offers a maximum tip height of 233 ft 11 in (71.30 m), while angle boom configurations support different lifting applications. For extended reach, a tube jib from 30 to 75 ft (9.14 to 22.86 m) and a luffing jib ranging from 50 to 140 ft (15.24 to 42.67 m) are available, enabling maximum tip heights up to 283 ft (86.26 m) when combined with appropriate boom configurations.
Hoisting capabilities are supported by hydraulic drums with grooved lagging for the wire rope, featuring automatic wet disc brakes and electronic drum rotation indicators. The main hoist can achieve line pulls up to 44,565 lb (20,214 kg) on the first layer. An optional front-mounted third hoist drum and rear-mounted fourth drum expand lifting flexibility, particularly for luffing applications or pile driving.
The swing system employs bi-directional axial piston motors and a planetary gear system, offering two-speed control with a swing speed up to 2.5 rpm and features such as free swing and positive house lock. The counterweight system includes upper slab and wing weights and side frame weights, totaling up to 85,020 lb (38,564 kg) when fully equipped.
Operator comfort is prioritized with a fully enclosed and padded modular cab, complete with ergonomic controls, climate control (18,600 BTU air conditioner and 19,000 BTU heater), a full instrumentation panel, and visibility enhancements. The crane is equipped with a rated capacity limiter system based on boom hoist load cells, providing real-time data on boom length, angle, load radius, and tip height with integrated alarms and function lockouts for safety.
With a travel speed of 1.2 mph (1.93 km/h) and a 30% gradeability, the 218 HSL is built for job site maneuverability. Designed to support rapid assembly and breakdown, it includes self-assembly capabilities, transport-optimized component sizing, and catwalks for safe access. The Link-Belt 218 HSL offers a dependable blend of lifting performance, safety systems, and operational flexibility, making it a reliable choice across general construction, industrial lifting, and energy sector projects.
