Product Description

The P&H 9170-TC is a heavy-duty 150-ton class lattice boom truck crane, engineered by P&H to handle the most demanding lifting applications across infrastructure, civil construction, and heavy industrial sectors. With its high-rated capacity and robust build, the 9170-TC excels in both reach and performance, while maintaining road mobility thanks to its 8×4 truck-mounted configuration.

At the core of the 9170-TC’s lifting system is its modular tubular lattice boom, constructed of high-strength alloy steel. The basic boom configuration consists of a 12.19 m (40 ft) base section and a 3.05 m (10 ft) tip section, with optional inserts in lengths of 10 ft, 20 ft, 30 ft, and 40 ft, allowing the boom to be extended up to 76.2 meters (250 ft). For applications requiring vertical reach, an optional tower boom system enables configurations up to 48.77 meters (160 ft), consisting of tapered base, insert, and cap sections.

To further enhance versatility, the 9170-TC supports a four-piece jib system made of tubular lattice sections, extendable up to 36.58 meters (120 ft). The jib is also modular, using base, tip, and insert sections, all pin-connected with welded high-tensile steel chords. These allow the crane to be customized for long-reach, offset, or up-and-over lifting requirements, such as in bridgework or power plant erection.

The crane’s drum and hoist system is designed for performance and safety. Each of the front, rear, and boom hoist drums features planetary reducers and clutch-brake systems. The hoist drum supports wire rope of 28 mm diameter, with line pulls up to 15,095 lbs (6,850 kg) and line speeds reaching 170.6 ft/min (52 m/min). Boom hoist speeds are 14 m/min (45.9 ft/min), supporting 16-part reeving to manage the heavy boom configurations.

Multiple hook block options are available, including a 150-ton block with six sheaves, a 65-ton block with three, and a 25-ton single-sheave block. A 13.5-ton ball hook is also offered. These work in tandem with the crane’s high-performance hoist and drum systems for safe and efficient material handling.

The upper structure includes hydraulic boom backstops, spring bumpers, and optional cable guide rollers. The swing system uses internal cut gear and optional Magnetorque clutches, allowing smooth and responsive slewing action with a swing speed of up to 3.94 RPM.

Mounted on a rugged 8×4 truck carrier, the P&H 9170-TC offers excellent road mobility and jobsite positioning. The carrier integrates hydraulic outriggers for full-span stabilization, and features robust powertrain and suspension components designed to handle the crane’s total working weight — approximately 107,000 kg (235,000 lbs) in standard trim, and 125,000 kg (275,600 lbs) with full tower boom and counterweights.

Safety and operator comfort are prioritized through fully enclosed steel cabs with environmental controls, clear instrumentation, and visibility enhancements. The layout of levers and pedals ensures ergonomic operation, while the boom angle indicator, drum rotation indicators, and hoist limits contribute to safer lifting practices.

In all, the P&H 9170-TC is a top-tier truck-mounted lattice boom crane offering 150-ton capacity, superior boom and jib reach, and comprehensive lifting and control systems. Its ability to combine high capacity with modular flexibility makes it a valuable asset for any contractor undertaking complex and demanding lifting operations.
