Sunward SWTC400E

Key Features & Benefits

The Sunward SWTC400E telescopic crawler crane represents the upper tier of Sunward’s crawler crane lineup, offering robust performance for heavy-duty lifting while maintaining flexibility in transport and site maneuverability. Officially introduced as part of Sunward’s EU Stage V-compliant equipment portfolio, the SWTC400E brings a blend of advanced engineering, operator comfort, and rugged performance that suits the needs of modern job sites across sectors like petrochemical, mining, water conservancy, and infrastructure.

Built around a high-strength structure, the crane is equipped with a five-section telescopic boom made from 800 MPa grade U-shaped high-strength steel. The boom spans from a retracted length of 11.4 meters to a fully extended length of 44.5 meters, supporting a lifting height of 44.8 meters without the jib. With the 16-meter jib installed, the crane reaches an impressive maximum lifting height of 60 meters. The maximum lifting torque on the basic boom is rated at 160 t·m, one of the highest in its class.

With a rated maximum lifting capacity of 40 tonnes, the SWTC400E operates with a 10-part line reeving and uses a Φ16 mm wire rope for main hoisting operations. The main boom can lift or lower in 40–45 seconds, and boom extension or retraction is accomplished in under 100 seconds, enhancing on-site efficiency. Its slewing mechanism operates at 2.7 rpm, with hoisting speeds of up to 150 m/min (boom and jib), which supports rapid load handling during critical lifting operations.

Powering the crane is a Cummins QSB6.7-C250 engine delivering 186 kW at 2200 rpm, compliant with EU Stage V emission standards, ensuring environmentally responsible operation and performance in regulated markets. The hydraulic system includes a 650-liter fuel tank and a 400-liter oil tank, supporting extended periods of continuous operation.

Transportability is another hallmark of the SWTC400E. While its working width is 4700 mm for enhanced stability, the undercarriage retracts to a transport width of 2990 mm—keeping within standard road transport limits and eliminating the need for special permits. Its overall transport dimensions are 14133 mm in length, 2990 mm in width, and 3180 mm in height, and the crane features a self-disassembly counterweight (13 tonnes) to assist in relocation without additional lifting equipment.

The undercarriage features a long track beam made from HG70 and Q460C high-strength steels, providing a wide contact surface and low ground pressure (0.07 MPa), which enables the crane to travel on challenging terrains like swamps, deserts, and muddy construction zones. With a climbing gradeability of 45%, a three-rib track shoe design, and a driving speed of up to 3 km/h, the SWTC400E delivers excellent mobility under load and on gradients.

Sunward has placed emphasis on operator comfort and safety by including a wide luxury cab with heating/cooling air conditioning, noise insulation, servo-assisted controls, and panoramic video monitoring. The machine features a foldable guardrail system, electro-hydraulic CAN bus control, and double pull-wire sensors for accurate boom length detection. Safety systems include a WIKA (formerly Hirschmann) torque limiter and full monitoring coverage to minimize blind spots.

Whether used for heavy lifting, short-distance traveling with load, or installation of steel structures and large equipment, the SWTC400E offers a strong blend of load capacity, terrain adaptability, and smart control features. The crane stands out with its industry-leading boom length and lifting height, stability-enhancing counterweight design, and advanced hydraulic and electronic control technologies, making it a reliable workhorse for large-scale operations.
