Liebherr LTM11200-9.1
Liebherr debut the largest telescopic all-terrain crane in the world when the crane make its appearance in Bauma Munich 2007. The LTM11200-9.1 is a 1,200-tonne rated capacity 9-axles all-terrain that comes with an option 100m boom extension, transported on a separated vehicle.

Liebherr LTM11200-9.1, a 1,200 ton all terrain crane was unveiled to the public during BAUMA 2007 in Munich which immediately met with approval within the crane industry.
Even till today, the LTM11200-9.1 still remains one of the most powerful telescopic mobile crane on the market. The 1,200-tonne all terrain crane boasts a 100-meter telescoping boom and when equipped with its lattice boom extension and luffing jib, it can reach a lifting height up to 199 meters.
The crane chassis is almost 20 meters in length while the boom weighs 80 tonnes (104 tonnes when fitted with Y-Guy attachment) and is also nearly 20 meters long.
A simple and speedy boom assembly
The assembly of the LTM11200-9.1 boom on the job site can optionally be carried out with an auxiliary crane. By means of four special support jacks, the boom is lifted so that the low bed trailer can move off and the chassis of the LTM11200-9.1 can be positioned below the boom either to the front or to the rear. The boom can now be mounted to the chassis with a few manual actions.
Counterweight Advantages
The ballast concept of the LTM11200-9.1 developed by Liebherr offers numerous advantages for the crane operator.
- Dimensions and weights of the ballast plates are ideally adapted to the low bed trailers
- Complete ballast assembly without an auxiliary crane
- High economy due to the compatibility of the ballast weights with those of other large Liebherr cranes
- Comfortable and safe ballasting with the mobile crane and display unit BTT (BlueTooth Terminal)
The large-scale ballast distribution with two ballast stacks on each side provides the low working height for improved safety and ergonometric working conditions.
Intelligent Crane Control
The software and hardware of the LTM 11200-9.1 are developed by Liebherr in-house. The center is the LICCON computer system (Liebherr Computed Control) with

The LTM 11200-9.1 are completely interlaced by the Liebherr in-house data bus system, LSB (Liebherr-System-Bus). All important electric and electronic components are equipped with their own microprocessors and communicate with each other by only limited data cables. The data bus technology improves the reliability, comfort, and safety for road driving and crane operations:
- Higher reliability due to remarkable less electric cables and contacts
- Continuous self-testing of the “intelligent sensors”
- Comprehensive diagnosis possibilities, fast fault finding
The mobile crane is equipped with BTT (BlueTooth Terminal), for remote control of crane assembly functions like e.g. supporting, boom assembly and the ballasting which provides free view and proximity to the assembly work and higher comfort and economy.
Liebherr has also developed the LICCON work planner which uses a computer programme for planning, simulation, and documentation of crane operations at the PC. It also performs functions like:
- Display all load charts belonging to a specific crane
- Automatic search for suitable crane by the input of the load case parameters load, radius and hoisting height
- Simulation of crane operations with drawing functions and display of support forces.
Milestones
- Mammoet Received 1st Unit LTM11200-9.1 in the world in 2008. The crane was subsequently setup in Amsterdam, Netherlands for its first lift in the following week.
- Arabian Consolidate Trading (ACT) taken delivery of first unit of LTM11200-9.1 in Saudi Arabia (22nd June 2010) Arabian Consolidated Trading (ACT) has become the first in Saudi Arabia to purchase the 1,200-tonne mobile crane in 2010, making it the largest mobile in their region. Although the president of ACT, Hassan Mohamed Al-Naimi was looking forward to the hand over of the crane in BAUMA 2010 in Munich, his flight were disrupted due to Icelandic volcanic ash. The hand over then took place at Ehingen plant a few weeks later.
- Max Bögl uses LTM11200-9.1 to erect world’s tallest turbines (29th August 2017) – Specialist lifting contractor Max Bögl in Germany is working on a energy storage project which involved erecting four turbines near Schwäbisch Hall in the north-east of Baden-Württemberg in Germany.The turbines stand on large concrete water storage basins that are 40 meters tall, contributing to the 240m overall height of the turbines. LTM 11200-9.1 work is to lift and place 27 prestressed concrete rings for each basin which each weighs more than 90 tonnes.
- Japan heavy transport Yamagata taken delivery of 50th LTM11200-9.1 (21st August 2014). In September, the 50th Liebherr LTM11200-9.1 was delivered to the Japanese wing turbine component transport company, Yamagata. Yamagata’s managing director, Koichi Sambonsuge, visited the Liebherr factory in Ehingen in July 2014 to inspect the new crane. It is also the 5th unit of LTM11200-9.1 delivered to Japan.
The world’s largest crane rental and heavy lift solution provider, Mammoet, has taken delivery of the first Liebherr LTM11200-9.1 in the world on 2008.
