Product Description

The Sumitomo LS-238RH-V is a heavy-duty, 100-ton crawler crane tailored for clamshell operations with a capacity rating of up to 10 tons in clamshell mode. This model is part of Sumitomo’s long-standing RH-series and offers rugged dependability and hydraulic sophistication suited for demanding excavation, dredging, and foundation jobs.

The upper structure is built around an all-welded precision-machined frame and features a swing system with an internal integral ring gear. The main power plant is a Mitsubishi 6D22CT, water-cooled, 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 250 PS at 2,200 rpm, with a maximum torque of 105 kg-m at 1,200 rpm. The hydraulic system utilizes axial piston pumps and fixed displacement gear pumps, driving the crane’s swing, hoist, boom, and travel functions with precision through servo control.

The boom is of lattice construction, using round tubular main chords with high-tensile alloy steel, and configured with a two-piece base section of 18.3 meters, including a 7.62 m lower and 10.68 m top section. It features five head sheaves and can be extended with 3.05 m, 6.10 m, or 9.15 m boom inserts. The boom point machinery is supported on anti-friction bearings. The crane operates with a retractable high gantry and boasts a tail swing radius of 6.67 m.

The hoist system includes parallel-grooved drums powered by axial piston motors. Line speeds vary depending on pump control mode—under standard mode, holding and closing speeds reach up to 60 m/min, while reduced mode limits them to 15 m/min. Boom hoist speed is rated at 40 m/min in standard and 10 m/min in reduced mode. Drum diameters include 546 mm for holding/closing, 320 mm for optional third drum, and 420 mm for the boom hoist, accommodating cable diameters from 16 mm to 26 mm.

Tracks are heat-treated and self-cleaning with multiple hinge shoes; standard shoe width is 965 mm, with an option for 1,118 mm. The undercarriage features 54 shoes per side and offers a track gauge of 5.1 meters. Travel is managed via axial piston motors with reduction gears at each side, allowing straight-line travel, pivot turns, or counter-rotation.

Working weight with basic boom and full counterweight setup (34.2 tons) totals approximately 105.2 tons, applying a ground pressure of 0.77 kg/cm². Without counterweight and front attachments, the crane weighs approximately 60.5 tons. Gradeability is rated at 30% (17°), ensuring reliable mobility across rough terrain.

Additional features include self-adjusting hoist clutches, mechanical swing locks, spring-applied hydraulic brakes, and a load moment indicator system. Safety enhancements such as boom over-hoist limiting, drum pawl locks, swing locks, boom angle indicators, and optional taglines support jobsite protection and efficiency. The spacious operator cab is independently mounted, insulated against noise and vibration, and designed for comfort and control.
