Product Description
The Link-Belt HTC-822S is engineered to offer solid lifting performance and reliable road travel in a compact and serviceable configuration. As a 22-ton (20 metric ton) hydraulic truck crane, it features a four-section boom that extends from 38 feet to 120 feet 6 inches (11.58 m to 36.73 m), utilizing Link-Belt’s signature box construction with high-strength 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa) steel. The boom includes locking diamond-shaped impressions for rigidity and is supported by wear shoes for lateral and horizontal alignment. A manual fourth section is power-pinned for safe extension.
Boom elevation is handled by dual-acting hydraulic cylinders with integral holding valves, and the elevation range spans from -3° to 78°. The boom head includes standard 17-1/4″ (0.44 m) sheaves, supporting up to 10 parts of 3/4″ (19 mm) wire rope. An auxiliary lifting sheave is available for light-load hoisting and multi-reeving configurations. Optional fly extensions include a 34′ 6″ (10.52 m) or 33′ (10.06 m) stowable one-piece fly for 110′ (33.53 m) boom use only.
Swing is driven by a bi-directional hydraulic motor connected to a two-stage planetary gear reducer, allowing 360° continuous rotation at 2.45 rpm. A foot-operated, spring-released disc brake ensures safe braking, and a standard swing lock is controlled from the operator’s cab with dual-position house lock for travel and load pick operations.
The HTC-822S’s load hoist system is equipped with a Model 2M two-speed main winch and optional 2M auxiliary or 3M winch for power down and gravity lowering. Line pull reaches 15,870 lbs (7,199 kg) and line speed peaks at 548 fpm (167.03 m/min) on a 17″ (0.43 m) drum.
Its four-section gear-type hydraulic pump delivers 193 gpm (730.5 lpm) at up to 2,900 psi (200 bar), powered by the carrier engine via a manual disconnect and clutch system. The crane includes six independent control valves for simultaneous multi-function operation and is supported by a 140-gallon (530.0 L) hydraulic reservoir with inline filtration.
The carrier is built on an 8×4 chassis with tandem front and rear axles. The frame uses all-welded high-strength steel construction with integrated outrigger boxes rated at 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa). It has a wide stance of 10’–11 1/2″ (3.39 m) and a 230″–1/2″ (5.85 m) wheelbase. Front and rear outrigger beams extend to 22’–4″ (6.81 m), while the front bumper outrigger (optional) provides 360° lifting support.
Suspension includes spring suspension with torque rods at the front and a 54″ (1.37 m) solid-mounted bogie beam at the rear. Steering uses Sheppard rack-and-pinion with a tight 58’–5 3/4″ (17.82 m) wall-to-wall turning radius. Braking is handled by full air systems, with cam-type drums and emergency spring-actuated rear brakes that engage below 60 psi (4.14 bar).
The standard Fuller Roadranger RTO-6613 transmission provides 13 forward and 3 reverse gears, and the drive system is compatible with optional tire configurations including 445/65R22.5 XZY radials and 12R20 types.
The carrier cab is a fully enclosed one-man cab with acoustic insulation, sliding windows, tilt steering, and full instrumentation, while the upperstructure cab includes all essential gauges, controls, foot pedals, and safety-glass windows. Optional equipment includes engine block heaters, towing shackles, diesel heaters, and a cab-mounted tachometer, spotlight, and monitoring systems.
The Link-Belt HTC-822S remains a practical and high-performing crane for contractors seeking dependable capacity, quick setup, and reliable transport on a 22-ton lifting platform.
