Product Description
The Potain MCT 178 flat top tower crane is engineered to deliver versatility and high performance on compact and mid-rise building projects. This crane offers a maximum lifting capacity of 8 tonnes and supports jib configurations from 25 to 60 meters, with the tip load reaching approximately 1.5 tonnes at the maximum outreach.
Built on Potain’s renowned topless design, the MCT 178 allows overlapping configurations with other cranes, ideal for dense construction sites. It accommodates different tower systems such as the P 16A, SB 16A, P 20A, and VB 20A, enabling freestanding hook heights from around 43.1 meters up to 67.6 meters, and higher with climbing configurations.
For lifting, the crane is equipped with the 50 LVF 20 Optima hoisting mechanism, delivering speeds up to 121 m/min and capable of accommodating 634 meters of rope, allowing ample flexibility for taller structures. It also offers a 50 LVF 20 GH Optima variant for additional power. Slewing is managed by the RVF 152 Optima+ system, which provides smooth 360-degree rotation with a speed of up to 0.8 rpm. Trolleying is facilitated by the 7 DVF 4 motor system with speeds up to 79 m/min.
Transportation and assembly are streamlined thanks to its compact design. The slewing unit, counter-jib, and cab can be split into manageable sections, most of which fit into standard 40 ft high cube containers or 20 ft flat racks. The MCT 178 also includes Smart View cab configurations and Potain’s Power Control system, optimizing power use across different site voltages and improving operational continuity.
This crane offers the right balance of height, lifting capacity, and ease of installation, making it a go-to option for general contractors tackling medium-density residential or commercial developments, especially in locations where multiple cranes are deployed simultaneously.
