Sarens in Vietnam has kicked off an important partnership with Trung Nam in Vietnam under which they will install 1200 MW of wind turbines over the next 2.5 years. The first phase of this project is the Trung Nam Wind Farm Phase 2, located in Ninh Thuan Province.

Sarens will be handling the full scope of work of the project including their in-house specialist mechanical and electrical teams for doing the installation of 16 turbines. With this project, Sarens will be installing Enercon’s EP3 platform turbine model E126 first time in APAC. The team is closely working with the client and the turbine manufacturer to ensure that the project is completed on schedule. According to Steven Coulson, Country Manager, Vietnam, “This project will further strengthen our position as the leading wind turbine installation partner in Vietnam.”

The wind turbines with a hub height of 116m required specialised cranes which were not available in Vietnam. Sarens decided to mobilise its CC3800 from Europe with LSL (126m) + LF8 (12m) configuration. The LR1350 was deployed for the pre-installation along with 2 supporting mobile cranes. The cranes are moved between the WTG locations using SPMTs which saved a significant amount of time for the assembly/disassembly of the cranes. CC3800 took around six weeks to reach the site from Europe.

The most critical lift was of the rotor weighing 81.5T and it had to be installed at a height of 115m. Due to heavy winds during the day time, their team decided to also work in the night when the wind speeds were a lot lower and allowed continuous installation avoiding weather downtime. Sarens mobilised fifty crew members to the site and the equipment and personnel will remain at the site until January 2020.
