Product Description

The Liebherr HS 885 HD crawler crane is engineered for intensive duty-cycle operations including dragline, clamshell, dynamic soil compaction, and heavy lifting tasks. At the heart of the machine is a Liebherr D 9508 A7 V8 diesel engine producing 450 kW (603 hp) at 1900 rpm, with an option to fit a MAN D 2842 LE engine generating 670 kW (898 hp). Both engines comply with strict EPA / CARB Tier 3 or Tier 2 exhaust standards, ensuring powerful yet environmentally responsible performance.

Fuel capacity is substantial, with a 930-liter tank equipped with level indicators and reserve warnings, supporting long operation shifts. The hydraulic system operates via axial piston displacement pumps through a distributor gearbox, utilizing an on-demand flow system to conserve fuel and reduce peak pressures. Working pressure peaks at 350 bar, and oil is kept clean through electronically monitored filtration, with a total oil tank capacity of 1170 liters.

The HS 885 HD’s main winches are compact and modular with line pulls ranging from 200 kN to 300 kN depending on the rope diameter and winch option chosen. Drum diameters range between 630 mm and 820 mm, and rope speeds reach up to 119 m/min. A clutch and brake free-fall system is standard, with variable flow hydraulic motors adjusting output to maximize winch speed according to load. Optional winches include a 160 kN capacity crane winch (main), 70 kN auxiliary winch, and 30-70 kN tagline winch, with or without free fall capability.

The boom hoist system uses a dedicated boom winch rated at 2 x 70 kN line pull with 20 mm rope diameter. Boom elevation speed ranges from 15° to 82° in 84 seconds, offering controlled and precise handling of heavy boom loads.

The swing system uses a planetary gearbox with external teeth for the lower tooth flank pressure, and a hydraulically released multi-disc holding brake. Swing speed is adjustable from 0–3.5 rpm, with three selectable speed ranges to increase precision during positioning.

The undercarriage includes 2-web grousers on 1000 mm wide tracks, delivering stable ground contact. Propulsion is via axial piston hydraulic motors with spring-loaded, hydraulically released multi-disc brakes and chain tensioning devices. Travel speed ranges from 0–0.85 km/h, with an optional two-speed motor increasing travel to 1.5 km/h for quick repositioning on site.

Operator control is managed via Liebherr’s proprietary system, featuring high-resolution displays, temperature-resistant electronics, and proportional joystick levers for precise boom, swing, and crawler control. The cab is equipped for simultaneous multi-function operation and offers foot pedal controls with optional attachment for dragline operation, along with additional optional packages including special demolition controls, machine data recording (MDE), process data recording (PDE), and GSM modem connectivity.

Noise emissions comply with EU directive 2000/14/EC, ensuring reduced noise pollution in outdoor environments. The hydraulic system supports customization for auxiliary attachments such as vibrators, hydraulic grabs, oscillators, or casing rotators, expanding the crane’s utility in foundation and specialty construction work.
