Key Features & Benefits
The SANY STC500C5-8 was introduced as part of SANY’s latest generation truck crane lineup, emphasizing compact transport dimensions, intelligent control systems, and improved lifting performance. The crane utilizes SANY’s “Structure 3.0” design platform, incorporating a third-generation hybrid structural frame and optimized boom design intended to improve fatigue resistance and structural rigidity.
One of the major design priorities of the STC500C5-8 was mobility in urban and restricted-access environments. The crane features a narrow overall vehicle width of only 2,550 mm, which SANY describes as one of the narrowest chassis widths in its class. Combined with a relatively short wheelbase and compact overall dimensions, the crane is intended for operation in confined roads, bridges, tunnels, and densely populated construction areas. Overall transport dimensions measure approximately 13,940 mm in length, 2,550 mm in width, and 3,640 mm in height.
The crane is mounted on a four-axle carrier with a 8×4 drive arrangement. Axles 3 and 4 are driven, while axles 1 and 2 provide hydraulic-assisted steering. The chassis uses a torsion-resistant box-type frame fabricated from fine-grain high-strength steel to improve rigidity and load-carrying capability. Suspension consists of leaf springs on the front axles and rubber suspension on the rear axles to improve ride comfort and durability.
Power for the carrier is supplied by a Yuchai YCK08330-66 inline six-cylinder diesel engine compliant with China National VI emission regulations. The engine develops 243 kW at 2,200 rpm with maximum torque of 1,350 Nm between 1,200 and 1,700 rpm. The drivetrain is paired with a Fast 9-speed manual transmission equipped with synchronizers to improve drivability during both highway and site travel.
The STC500C5-8 achieves a maximum road speed of 90 km/h with maximum gradeability of 46%. Minimum turning radius is approximately 12 m, while approach and departure angles are rated at 20° and 12° respectively. Total vehicle weight is approximately 37,200 kg with balanced axle load distribution designed to comply with regional road regulations.
The superstructure incorporates a five-section U-shaped telescopic boom fabricated from high-strength welded steel. The basic boom length measures 11.3 m and extends hydraulically to a maximum of 44 m. Maximum lifting height with the fully extended boom reaches approximately 44.5 m, while the addition of the lattice jib increases lifting height to approximately 60.5 m. The jib system is available in 9.2 m and 16 m configurations with offset angles of 0°, 15°, and 30°.
The crane delivers a maximum lifting capacity of 50 tonnes at a 3 m working radius. Maximum lifting moment reaches 1,617 kN·m on the basic boom and 1,098 kN·m on the fully extended boom. SANY emphasized that the boom structure was optimized through simulation analysis and overlap optimization techniques, improving high-frequency lifting performance by approximately 5% compared with earlier designs.
The outrigger system utilizes H-type outriggers with support spans of 7.4 m transversely and 6.05 m longitudinally. A reduced outrigger span configuration of 4.8 m is also available for operation in restricted spaces. The outriggers are fabricated from high-strength fine-grain steel and use hydraulic locking cylinders for operational safety.
Counterweight configuration totals 9.1 tonnes, consisting of a 6.6-ton fixed counterweight and a 2.5-ton movable counterweight section. The compact counterweight arrangement contributes to reduced transport weight while maintaining lifting stability.
The hydraulic system uses SANY’s latest electro-hydraulic hybrid operating technology combined with the i-EHC 2.0 control platform. According to SANY, the system improves response speed and operating precision while reducing boom retraction shock and improving telescoping smoothness. A new intelligent dual-pump hydraulic system with variable displacement pumps automatically matches hydraulic demand with engine torque requirements to improve energy utilization efficiency.
The crane also incorporates SANY’s i-ECO energy-saving system with automatic engine speed matching and regeneration technology intended to reduce carbon buildup during extended operations. SANY states that operational fuel consumption can be reduced by approximately 20% compared with previous systems.
Main and auxiliary winches both achieve maximum single-line rope speeds of 135 m/min with maximum single-line pulling force rated at 4.6 tonnes. Full boom extension takes approximately 80 seconds while retraction requires approximately 110 seconds. Boom luffing time is approximately 50 seconds upward and 80 seconds downward between 0° and 80°. Maximum slewing speed reaches 2.0 rpm with integrated slewing buffering technology for smoother rotational control.
The operator’s cab was redesigned with emphasis on comfort and intelligent operation. Features include panoramic skylight glazing, soft-touch interior trim, adjustable seating, climate control, and a 10-inch touchscreen display integrated with SANY’s i-Crane intelligent operating system. The system includes fault diagnosis, maintenance reminders, working condition recommendations, and real-time operating parameter monitoring.
Safety systems include a high-precision load moment limiter, hydraulic relief valves, balance valves, dual hydraulic locks, anti-two-block protection, height limit devices, angle and length sensors, pressure monitoring systems, and winch monitoring devices. According to SANY, the updated load moment limiter improves lifting precision by approximately 20% compared with earlier systems while providing remaining-radius warnings to improve operational safety.
