Key Features & Benefits
The XCMG XCR90 is part of XCMG’s rough terrain crane lineup developed to handle heavy lifting operations on construction sites, energy projects, and industrial installations where mobility on uneven ground is essential. The crane offers a maximum lifting capacity of 90 tonnes, supported by a U-shaped telescopic boom structure consisting of one base section and four telescopic sections. The boom extends from 12.4 m to 48 m, utilizing a double-cylinder and rope telescoping mechanism to provide smooth extension and improved structural rigidity during lifting operations.
To increase working flexibility, the crane can be fitted with a two-section lattice jib with adjustable offset angles of 0°, 15°, and 30°. The jib provides an additional 10.5 m to 17.5 m of reach, enabling the crane to perform lifting tasks at greater heights and radii. When not in use, the jib is conveniently stored along the side of the main boom to simplify transport and setup.
The crane’s superstructure is supported by a high-strength fine-grained steel frame, welded in a torsion-resistant configuration to provide high load-bearing capability. Stability during lifting is ensured by four H-type outriggers, which are positioned on both sides of the chassis frame and operated through a combined electric and hydraulic control system. This arrangement provides a wide and stable support base for heavy lifting operations.
The XCR90 is powered by a Shangchai SC9DK260.1G3 inline six-cylinder diesel engine, producing approximately 192 kW at 2000 rpm with a maximum torque of around 1110 Nm between 1200 and 1600 rpm. The engine meets EU Stage IIIA emission standards and is designed for reliable performance in heavy-duty construction environments. The crane features a fuel tank capacity of approximately 305 liters, allowing long operating cycles on remote worksites.
Power from the engine is transmitted through a ZF 6WG210 automatic transmission with six forward gears and three reverse gears, providing smooth gear changes and efficient power delivery across various driving conditions. The rough terrain chassis includes two axles with both driving and steering capability, ensuring excellent maneuverability and traction on uneven ground.
The suspension system is designed for stability and load handling. The front axle is rigidly connected to the frame, while the rear axle uses hydraulic swing suspension, providing cushioning during travel on rough roads. The rear suspension cylinder can be locked to a rigid position during lifting or when traveling with a suspended load to improve operational stability.
Mobility and maneuverability are further enhanced by the crane’s multiple steering modes, including front-wheel steering, crab steering, and independent rear-axle steering, allowing tight turning radii and flexible positioning on confined job sites. The crane runs on four heavy-duty off-road tires sized 29.5R25, designed to provide strong load-bearing capacity and traction.
The hydraulic system uses a dual variable displacement pump to power the hoisting, luffing, and telescoping functions, while a gear pump supplies power for slewing, steering, braking, and outrigger operations. A load-sensitive proportional multi-way valve serves as the main control valve, ensuring precise hydraulic response and efficient power use. The hydraulic oil system includes an independent radiator and a tank capacity of approximately 1057 liters to maintain stable operating temperatures.
The crane is equipped with main and auxiliary winch systems driven by hydraulic motors with planetary gear reducers and normally closed brakes. The slewing system uses a single-row four-point contact ball bearing slewing ring driven by a hydraulic motor through a planetary reducer, providing smooth and stable rotation during lifting operations.
Operator comfort and control are enhanced through a tiltable operator cab with sliding door access and an adjustable seat. The cab is equipped with safety glass, roof protection grille, sun shades for both the windshield and roof window, as well as standard features such as heater, air conditioning, radio, and 12 V / 24 V electrical outlets.
Safety systems include a Load Moment Indicator (LMI), hydraulic relief valves, balance valves, and a hydraulic double-way valve to ensure safe operation. Additional protections include a lowering limiter in the winch system to prevent rope over-release and an anti-two-block device on the boom head to avoid rope overwinding. The crane typically uses a 10-ton counterweight and is supplied with 55-ton and 7-ton hook blocks for various lifting configurations.
Overall, the XCMG XCR90 combines strong lifting capacity, reliable drivetrain components, and advanced hydraulic control systems, making it well suited for demanding lifting operations on rough terrain where mobility, stability, and lifting precision are critical.
