Product Description

The Kato NK-400 made its debut as a robust 40-ton class hydraulic truck crane, engineered for high lifting capacity and superior on-site mobility. Its hallmark feature is the 4-section “Full Power” boom, extending hydraulically from 11 to 36 meters, all controlled via a single lever for seamless operation. For extended reach, a fly jib with a length of 8.5 to 13.5 meters can be mounted, enabling maximum flexibility in height and range.

The NK-400’s boom system operates at a derricking angle range from -2.5° to 80°, with a smooth extension rate of 0.16 m/s. The Freomatic winch system allows high-speed rope and hook handling — up to 91.5 m/min (rope) and 9.15 m/min (hook) — ensuring fast and reliable load lifting. Winches are powered by high-torque hydraulic motors and designed for safe operation using a “free fall” mechanism or power lowering, depending on job demands.

Under the hood, the crane is powered by a Mitsubishi 8DC20A diesel engine, delivering a maximum of 265 PS at 2500 rpm and a torque of 89 kg·m at 1200 rpm. The carrier chassis, Mitsubishi K352L, has a total length of 13,050 mm and a gross vehicle weight of 37,850 kg. The drive system is 8×4, utilizing a synchro-mesh transmission with a dry single disc clutch. This setup allows for a top road speed of 70 km/h and a gradeability of 25.7%. The fuel tank holds 300 liters.

The steering mechanism uses a ball nut with power assist, while its 11.5-meter turning radius supports excellent site maneuverability. The hydraulic system includes a 3-section gear type pump, radial piston-type motors, and a 3-position 4-way valve with safety and balancing features. The hoisting ropes are 160 m (main winch) and 110 m (auxiliary), made of 6xFi(29) I.W.R.C wire with 18 mm diameter.

Standard safety systems include the A.S.L.I (Automatic Safety Load Indicator), Glide-Master planetary slewing with hydrostatic disk brake, full-vision cab, and advanced outriggers for maximum stability on uneven terrain. The NK-400 embodies Kato’s design philosophy of combining power, operational speed, and field reliability with user-focused control and visibility features.
