Product Description

The Kato NK-450 hydraulic truck crane is a robust and reliable 45-ton class machine equipped with the performance capabilities needed for heavy lifting in both urban environments and more complex terrains. It features a 4-section, 35-meter “Full Power” boom, independently controlled by hydraulic cylinders that allow for smooth telescoping action using a single lever. This setup provides exceptional flexibility with extension ranging from 11 meters up to the full 35 meters, ideal for fast and efficient boom configuration on the job site.

To enhance reach, the crane can be equipped with a fly jib extending from 8.5 to 13.5 meters. This optional two-stage underslung jib attaches below the base boom section and can be offset at 5°, 25°, or 45° for improved lifting range and accessibility in tight work areas. The main boom offers a derricking range of -2.5° to 80°, and its telescoping speed allows extension at 0.16 m/sec. Hoisting is handled by dual tandem-drive winches, which enable safe “free fall” or “power lowering” operation via a Freomatic winch system — these are powered by high-torque radial piston hydraulic motors with automatic brakes and clutches.

The main and auxiliary winches deliver hoisting rope speeds up to 91.5 m/min, while hook speed for the main winch reaches 8.31 m/min. Slewing operations are powered by Kato’s “Glide-Master” planetary slewing system, offering smooth and precise control through a hydrostatically actuated disc brake system, rotating at 1.64 rpm.

For hoisting, the NK-450 uses I.W.R.C. (independent wire rope core) ropes with 11 parts of line for the main winch, measuring 175 m x 18 mm, and a single-line auxiliary winch at 110 m x 18 mm. The hydraulic system includes a 3-section gear oil pump along with radial piston motors for hoist and slewing, supporting 4-way double-acting cylinders for smooth, secure operation.

The NK-450 rides on the Mitsubishi K352L 8×4 chassis and is powered by the Mitsubishi 8DC20A engine, producing 265 PS at 2,500 rpm with torque of 89 kg-m at 1,200 rpm. It is capable of highway speeds up to 70 km/h, with a minimum speed of 2.4 km/h at full torque. The transmission is a constant mesh & synchromesh type, and the 8-wheel setup includes dual 12.00-20-18PR tires front and rear. The turning radius is 11.5 meters, and it offers 26% gradeability, making it capable of navigating uneven or inclined work environments.

Operator safety and comfort are also emphasized in the design. The superstructure cab features panoramic vision with safety glass windows and an ergonomic reclining seat. Control panels are thoughtfully laid out for ease of operation. Kato’s Automatic Safety Load Indicator (ASLI) is also included, providing continuous feedback on rated and actual lifting conditions to prevent overloads. Additional safety features include work range limiters, outrigger sensors, and emergency shutdowns, all designed for job site assurance and operational efficiency.
