Product Description

The Link-Belt HTC-828S truck crane is a durable, classically engineered crane introduced to serve the 28-ton (25.4 metric ton) capacity range, built for both mobility and lifting precision. Its three-section boom measures from 28 feet 9 inches to 70 feet 3 inches (8.76 m to 21.41 m), constructed using Link-Belt’s patented high-strength steel design with diamond-shaped impressions and 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa) steel chords. The boom uses wear shoes for lateral and telescoping guidance and is elevated hydraulically from 3° to 80°, supported by a self-aligning steel bushing system.

A robust boom head handles up to 8 parts of ½-inch (13 mm) wire rope across four 10.5-inch (0.27 m) diameter sheaves, while the optional auxiliary lifting sheave offers an additional single 10.5-inch sheave with quick conversion to one or two-part reeving, without affecting the main hoist. The optional 24-foot (7.32 m) one-piece fly extends reach further when required.

Swing operations are powered by a bi-directional hydraulic swing motor mounted to a planetary gear reducer, allowing for smooth 360° rotation at 3.0 rpm. Swing braking is achieved through a manually-applied, spring-released disc brake with optional foot-pedal control. Boom hoist and swing controls are ergonomically placed in the fully enclosed operator’s cab, which features tinted safety-glass windows, sound isolation, and a sliding rear window and swing-up roof window for ventilation. The cab instrumentation includes standard dash gauges for fuel, oil, temperature, and hydraulic pressure.

The hydraulic system of the HTC-828S is powered by a three-section gear-type pump mounted to the carrier engine, producing 2,800 psi (193.05 bar) at 115 gpm (435.3 L/min). The steering pump operates at 6 gpm (22.7 L/min) with pressure relief at 2,000 psi (137.9 bar). Hydraulic oil is stored in a 110-gallon (416 L) reservoir, and fluid cleanliness is maintained by a two-micron filtration system.

The crane’s standard main winch (Model 1M) features a single-speed motor and automatic brake, using a bi-directional gear-type hydraulic system. Optional winches include the Model 2M (two-speed) and Model 1M auxiliary winch for rear-only operations. Maximum permissible line pull is 9,600 lbs (4,355 kg), with a peak line speed of 416 fpm (126.80 m/min) on a 10.30-inch diameter drum. The auxiliary winch reaches up to 9,015 lbs (4,089 kg) line pull with 443 fpm (135.03 m/min) line speed.

On the carrier side, the HTC-828S features an 8-foot (2.44 m) wide frame with a 216-inch (5.49 m) wheelbase, using high-strength steel plate with integral 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa) outrigger boxes. It includes four hydraulic box beam outriggers with 19-inch (0.48 m) floats and an optional front bumper outrigger. The front axle is a standard Eaton single, while the rear is a tandem Eaton axle with a 71.77-inch (1.82 m) track.

Suspension includes Burton spring type up front and Hendrickson solid-mounted bogie beam at the rear. The crane travels on GUNITE cast six-spoke wheels with a wide range of tire options, including 15.00 x 22.5 transport types and optional radials. Power is delivered via a Fuller Roadranger RT-6613, 13-speed manual transmission, with an optional Allison MT-653DR 5-speed automatic with lock-up converter.

Steering is Sheppard rack-and-pinion with a tight 50-foot (15.24 m) turning radius, and braking is supported by full air systems and spring-applied parking brakes. The HTC-828S also comes with a well-equipped cab featuring all standard lighting, instrumentation, and comfort elements such as heater, defroster, dome lights, adjustable seating, and sliding tinted windows, making it a solid performer for lifting tasks in tight urban spaces or broad job sites.
