Product Description

Debuting as a robust solution for mid-capacity lifting demands, the Link-Belt HSP-8028S is designed with a three-section boom extending from 28’9″ to 70’3″ (8.76 to 21.41 m), fabricated with side plates bearing diamond-shaped impressions for added strength-to-weight ratio. Its steel boom construction rated at 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa) incorporates wear shoes to prevent metal-on-metal contact and an anti-two-block warning system for added lifting safety. The optional four-section boom extends to 91’0″ (27.74 m), while jib extensions, including a 24′ (7.32 m) stowable fly and a 14’6″ (4.42 m) stowable A-frame jib, allow further tip height versatility, with offset angles of 10°, 20°, and 30°.

The crane offers a choice of two engines:

  • GM 8.2N – An 8-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 500 cu.in. (8200 cc), providing 130 hp at 2800 rpm and 330 ft-lbs (447 Nm) peak torque.
  • Cummins V-378C – A 6-cylinder diesel option with 378 cu.in. (6195 cc) displacement, producing 125 hp at 3000 rpm and 280 ft-lbs (380 Nm) of torque.

Both engines pair with an Allison 4-speed fully automatic transmission and a 2-speed Rockwell transfer case offering 8 forward and 2 reverse speeds. This powertrain combination ensures strong performance and gradeability, with tractive efforts exceeding 39,800 lbs (18,000 kg) at stall, depending on the configuration.

The swing system features a bi-directional hydraulic motor with planetary reducer providing smooth 360° rotation at 3.0 rpm. Boom hoisting is achieved via a double-acting hydraulic cylinder, while the main winch provides a line pull of 9,600 lbs (4,355 kg) with a maximum line speed of 443 fpm (135 m/min) on a 13-1/4″ drum. The auxiliary winch is also bi-directional and mounted on the rear.

Hydraulics are delivered by a tandem double gear pump system operating at 2,800 psi (193 Bars), powering all crane functions via five separate control valves. The 100-gallon (378.5 L) hydraulic reservoir includes 10-micron filtration for ease of maintenance.

Built on a heavy-duty 4x4x4 chassis, the HSP-8028S has a wheelbase of 121″ (3.07 m) and an 8′ (2.44 m) wide frame. The front axle is rigid-mounted while the rear axle floats with an automatic hydraulic lockout for stability during lifting. The crane’s suspension includes pin-mounted steel cradles and stabilizing lockout features.

Standard safety and comfort features include a sliding door, rear swing-up window, full-width tinted glass, adjustable operator’s seat, and ergonomically placed controls. Optional accessories range from auxiliary steering and lighting to engine block heaters, air dryers, and heated mirrors, allowing for cold-weather and specialty operation configurations.

This crane is particularly noted for its adaptability in tight spaces and durable structure, making it a preferred choice for contractors and industrial lifting tasks requiring compact form and reliable strength.
