The SANY SRA550A is a compact yet powerful 55-ton class rough terrain crane engineered for operational versatility, tight-space mobility, and operator-focused comfort. Positioned as a big step above the smaller SRA350A, this model is ideal for municipal maintenance, refinery and power plant tasks, yard staging, and general construction support. It stands out in its class for offering the longest boom and highest lifting strength while maintaining a tight footprint for maneuverability in confined jobsite conditions.

The lifting system consists of a four-section formed boom extending from 35.4 feet to 114.8 feet (10.8 – 35 meters), providing exceptional horizontal reach and height. It pairs with a two-piece hydraulically assisted lattice jib, extendable from 30.2 feet to 52.5 feet (9.2 – 16 meters), for a total lifting tip height approaching 170 feet. This configuration gives the crane the flexibility to handle a wide range of lift scenarios, from low-clearance operations to elevated placements.

Power is delivered through a Cummins QSB6.7 Stage V diesel engine rated at 280 horsepower, paired with a Dana automatic transmission and rugged Meritor axles. This proven drivetrain configuration ensures reliable off-road performance, smooth shifting, and responsive traction. The unit offers four steering modes including front-wheel, four-wheel, crab, and rear-steer for precise control in constrained environments.

The main winch delivers 15,500 lbs of line pull and operates using ¾″ Verope Category 1 wire rope, with a maximum rope speed of 492 feet per minute (150 m/min). This ensures quick lifting cycles while maintaining fine control with a third wrap indicator and function kick-out for added safety. A 9,700 lb fixed counterweight ensures solid stability without requiring disassembly for transport.

From a maintenance and serviceability perspective, the SRA550A includes remote-mounted filters, easily accessible daily service checks, centralized upper and electrical compartments, and a flat deck design with multiple access points, allowing operators and technicians to inspect and maintain the machine with minimal effort.

The operator cab is among the most spacious in its class, with a wide body and ergonomic layout. It features a high-visibility, climate-controlled environment, complete with a 10.1″ full-color touchscreen LMI—widely regarded as one of the most user-friendly systems in the industry. The interface is icon-driven with fast navigation and integrated diagnostics, virtual wall controls, and fine inching adjustment, making crane operation intuitive and efficient.
