Product Description

The Terex RT 780 is a robust and versatile 80-ton (72.6 metric ton) rough terrain crane designed for superior lifting performance and reliable operation across a variety of tough job sites. The crane’s main boom consists of four fully hydraulic, synchronized sections offering a continuous telescoping range from 40 feet to 126 feet (12.2 m to 38.4 m). For extended reach, an optional jib offers configurations from 33 feet to 57 feet, providing a maximum tip height of up to 190 feet (57.9 m).

Powering the RT 780 is a Cummins QSB6.7 six-cylinder diesel engine compliant with Tier 4 Final emissions, rated at 260 horsepower (194 kW) at 2,200 rpm. The engine produces a peak torque of 730 ft-lb at 1,500 rpm and is turbocharged with an intercooler for efficient performance in all climates. The engine is paired with a 6×6 powershift transmission that supports speeds up to 25 mph (40 km/h) and includes selectable 4WD with front-wheel, concentric four-wheel, and crab steering capabilities for maneuverability in confined workspaces.

The crane’s superstructure is capable of continuous 360° rotation, driven by a hydraulic motor with a planetary reducer and achieving a rotation speed of 2.2 rpm. Slewing is manually actuated via a foot pedal, and a house lock ensures secure positioning during transport or stationary operation.

The winch system on the RT 780 is powerful and configurable. The standard hoist features a grooved drum with a 3/4-inch (19 mm) wire rope, supporting up to 600 ft of rope length. The main hoist achieves a maximum line pull of 18,450 lb (83.2 kN) in the first layer and up to 489 ft/min (149 m/min) rope speed at fifth layer in high gear. Optional winch configurations include 60 USt and 80 USt hook blocks with 5 sheaves for more demanding lifts.

The cab is ergonomically designed and climate-controlled with standard HVAC. It includes a six-way adjustable heated seat, a tiltable layout by 18°, sliding windows, and an all-glass skylight for visibility overhead. Dual-axis electro-proportional joysticks control major crane functions, with foot pedals managing swing and braking. The cab also houses the graphic interface for the rated capacity indicator system, which provides real-time feedback and safety alerts.

Outriggers extend to a maximum spread of 24 feet (7.3 m), and the pads are 24 inches in diameter, ensuring stable support during operation. Hydraulic power is delivered via tandem and single pumps with a maximum system pressure of 4,500 psi. The reservoir holds 178 gallons of hydraulic oil, filtered through 250-micron suction and 5-micron return filters.

The RT 780 rides on wide earthmover-pattern 29.5 x 25-28PR tires, delivering stability and traction in rough conditions. With a standard counterweight of 15,200 lb (6,895 kg) and an operating weight of approximately 91,216 lb (41,378 kg), the crane maintains a low center of gravity and excellent lifting dynamics. Built to ASME B30.5 standards, the Terex RT 780 combines rugged construction, long reach, and advanced safety and control systems to serve in general construction, petrochemical, and infrastructure sectors.
