Product Description

The Potain MDT 222 J12 is part of Potain’s Topless MDT line, which focuses on modular design, simplified logistics, and rapid erection. Unlike traditional hammerhead cranes, the MDT 222 features a topless design that removes the need for tie bars and reduces the out-of-service height, allowing for close crane positioning on congested sites or multi-crane layouts.

This model is rated for a maximum lifting capacity of 12 tonnes, with a longest jib configuration of 65 meters. At full reach, the crane maintains a tip load of 2.4 tonnes, while at intermediate distances it demonstrates excellent strength—for example, it lifts 4.4 tonnes at 45 meters and 7.1 tonnes at 35 meters. These capacities make it ideal for high-volume lifting of steel, precast elements, and formwork systems.

The MDT 222 J12 supports both 1.6-meter and 2-meter mast systems, enabling variable freestanding heights depending on the chosen base. With the 2-meter system, it achieves freestanding heights up to 69.9 meters using standard modular sections. Multiple anchoring bases are available, such as P61A and V60A, enabling diverse site adaptation. It also supports internal climbing with the B60A or B42A base units, allowing the crane to ascend within buildings under construction.

The crane is typically equipped with three hoisting options: the 37 S, 45 S, and 75 LVF winches. The 75 LVF provides high-speed lifting of up to 99 m/min and delivers full 12-tonne capacity with optimal reeving. Trolleying is handled by a 6 D3 mechanism with speeds between 11 and 66 m/min, while slewing is driven by the R-8,8 unit, giving a rotational speed of 0–0.67 rpm for precise handling. The crane complies with CEI 38 and IEC 38 standards, operating on 400V/50Hz power and requiring between 64 and 90 kVA depending on winch configuration.

One of the core advantages of the MDT 222 J12 is its flat-top design which simplifies overlap between cranes and reduces tower height clearances—important in cities or on tiered job sites. It also facilitates easier transport and assembly since major components such as the jib and counter-jib are modular and lightweight.

In essence, the Potain MDT 222 J12 blends strength, agility, and modern crane design for efficient operation in dense urban developments, infrastructure sites, and vertical construction where crane coordination, reduced interference, and performance at height are critical.
