Key Features & Benefits
The SAC4500 is positioned in the heavy-duty segment of SANY’s all-terrain crane range, designed to meet the lifting demands of large infrastructure and energy-sector construction. With a maximum rated lifting capacity of 450 tonnes, the crane offers substantial lifting moment and extended reach while maintaining highway mobility.
The main boom consists of seven sections fabricated from high-strength fine-grain steel with a U-shaped cross-section for improved load distribution and torsional rigidity. The basic boom length is 16.1 m, extending hydraulically to a full length of 84 m. This long boom configuration allows strong performance across a broad working radius. When equipped with the longest fixed jib, the maximum boom plus jib combination reaches 116 m, significantly enhancing lifting height for high-elevation applications. The jib installation angles are selectable at 0°, 20°, and 40° to accommodate different site conditions.
The crane achieves a maximum lifting moment of approximately 16,000 kN·m on the basic boom. The full counterweight configuration reaches up to 142 tonnes, providing stability for heavy lifts at extended radii. The outrigger system adopts a wide H-type layout with a span of 9.4 m longitudinally and 9.6 m transversely, ensuring a stable lifting platform under maximum load conditions.
The hoisting system offers a maximum single-line lifting speed of 130 m/min under no-load conditions. The boom telescoping time is approximately 800 seconds for full extension or retraction, while boom raising and lowering times are around 95 seconds each. Slewing is 360° continuous with a maximum slewing speed of 1.3 r/min, providing smooth and controlled rotation during precision lifting.
The SAC4500 utilizes a dual-engine arrangement. The carrier (lower chassis) is powered by a high-performance diesel engine delivering 480 kW at 1,800 rpm and 2,900 N·m of torque at 1,300 rpm. The superstructure (upper crane) engine produces 205 kW at 2,200 rpm with 1,100 N·m of torque at 1,400 rpm. This configuration separates travel and lifting power systems, improving fuel efficiency and operational reliability.
Mounted on a six-axle carrier with a 12×8 drive configuration, the crane ensures effective traction and load distribution. Overall vehicle length is approximately 19,420 mm, width 3,000 mm, and height 4,000 mm. The total travel weight is around 72,000 kg under road configuration. Maximum travel speed reaches 70 km/h, with a minimum turning radius of 12.5 m and minimum ground clearance of 300 mm. Approach and departure angles are 16° and 10° respectively, and maximum gradeability is 45%, allowing the crane to access challenging job sites.
The hydraulic system adopts load-sensing and electro-proportional control technology, enabling smooth micro-movements and coordinated multi-function operation. The main and auxiliary winches use high-strength wire rope and are designed for stable heavy-load handling. The crane also integrates an advanced PLC-based control system with CAN-BUS communication, ensuring reliable data transmission and precise control response.
The operator’s cab is ergonomically designed with panoramic visibility, adjustable seating, and integrated digital monitoring displays. Both upper and lower cabs are equipped with heating and cooling air-conditioning systems for improved comfort during extended working hours.
Safety features include a load moment limiter based on analytical lifting mechanics modeling, boom angle and length sensors, wind speed monitoring, height limiters, and automatic overload protection. Hydraulic balance valves, dual-direction locks, and multi-layer protection systems enhance operational safety under high-load conditions.
Overall, the SANY SAC4500 combines a 450-ton lifting capacity, 84 m main boom, up to 116 m maximum boom-jib configuration, 142 t counterweight system, and a six-axle 12×8 carrier platform. It is engineered for demanding heavy lifting operations such as wind turbine installation, petrochemical plant construction, large-scale bridge erection, and industrial module assembly where high capacity, extended reach, and operational stability are essential.
