Key Features & Benefits
The Tadano AR-1600M is a versatile and powerful 160-ton all-terrain crane designed for medium to heavy lifting operations with robust performance and flexibility. It features a 5-section telescopic boom that extends from 13.5 m to 50.0 m, using a fully hydraulic direct-push cylinder system for fast and precise boom operation. The boom elevation angle ranges from -1.5° to 83°, and the maximum lifting height reaches 50.0 m with the main boom, 78.0 m with full-auto luffing jib, and 95.0 m with the optional luffing jib. The crane supports a variety of hooks including 160 t (20-part), 110 t (13-part), 65 t, 25 t, and a 9.4 t single-line hook, offering flexibility across load scenarios.
The hoisting system consists of two hydraulic winches powered by variable displacement motors and planetary gear reducers, with high/low-speed selection and automatic brakes. The main and auxiliary winches offer rope speeds up to 130 m/min on the 5th layer, using 24 mm diameter non-rotating wire rope. The crane features 360° continuous swing with swing speeds of 1.4/1.0 rpm, powered by a hydraulic motor with planetary gear reducer and disc-type negative brake.
The superstructure is driven by a Mitsubishi 6D24-TL 6-cylinder, 4-cycle, water-cooled turbo diesel engine delivering 188 kW (255 PS) at 1800 rpm and 1030 Nm torque at 1400 rpm. The hydraulic system comprises two variable piston pumps and two gear pumps, supplying power to critical crane functions. The hydraulic oil reservoir on the superstructure holds 1,585 liters, while the carrier holds 210 liters.
Mounted on the FAUN RTF160-5 carrier, the AR-1600M uses a Benz OM442LA V8 diesel engine, producing 503 PS at 2100 rpm and 206 kg·m of torque. The drivetrain offers a 10×6 configuration, with 10×8 available for off-road conditions and a full automatic transmission with 5 forward and 1 reverse gear, including torque converter and lock-up clutch. All axles use a hydro-pneumatic suspension system with a stroke of +149 mm / -113 mm for superior ride comfort and stability.
The steering system includes full hydraulic power steering with 2-circuit emergency backup and four modes: normal (6 front + 2 rear wheels), clamp (10-wheel), crab (10-wheel), and rear-only steering (4 wheels). This offers a minimum turning radius of 9.7 m, improving maneuverability in tight spaces.
The crane is equipped with H-type three-stage outriggers offering a maximum extension of 8.8 m, with intermediate positions at 8.0 m, 6.8 m, and 5.6 m. Rear jacks are hydraulically operated with ground contact sensors and individual controls. The counterweight system provides flexible options: 50 t, 44 t, 34 t, and 25 t, depending on lifting configuration and site conditions.
Safety systems include Tadano’s AML (Automatic Moment Limiter), outrigger width auto-detection, counterweight recognition, slew range limitation, automatic slew stop, boom elevation soft-stop, overwind prevention, and various rope safety mechanisms. Operator comfort and control are enhanced through a fully equipped cab with a multi-display AML system, air conditioning, FM radio, drum monitoring, back camera, and convenient in-cab amenities like a lunch table and cooler box.
With a maximum traveling speed of 60 km/h, gradeability of 0.73, and compact roadable dimensions (13.64 m long, 3.0 m wide, 2.775 m high), the AR-1600M is highly transportable. For public road travel, the boom and rotating superstructure must be transported separately, ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations.
Overall, the AR-1600M delivers strong lifting capacity, efficient hydraulic control, and mobility for demanding lifting operations in both urban and remote environments.
