Key Features & Benefits
The Link-Belt HTC-1040 hydraulic truck crane offers a dependable lifting solution tailored for construction, utility, and industrial jobs where a 40-ton capacity crane is ideal. The crane’s core lifting structure includes a three-section boom as standard, which extends from 35’ to 85’ (10.67 m – 25.91 m) using two power sections. Each section is built from 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa) high-strength steel and is supported by wear shoes for alignment and smooth telescoping both vertically and horizontally. An optional fourth boom section increases reach to 110’ (33.53 m), activated manually via a simple cylinder locking system.
The boom head includes five 16-3/8″ (0.42 m) root diameter sheaves to handle up to 10 parts of 3/4″ (19 mm) wire rope. For single-line applications, an auxiliary lifting sheave is available with removable rope guards for use with one or two parts of line off the optional front winch. Boom elevation is managed by two double-acting hydraulic cylinders with integral holding valves, allowing an elevation range from -3° to 78°.
For increased lifting height and reach, the HTC-1040 includes a 33’ (10.06 m) one-piece stowable lattice fly as standard, and an optional 25’ (7.62 m) A-frame style jib that can be offset at 5°, 17.5°, or 30°, mounted to the fly only. These attachments offer excellent flexibility for offset or elevated lifts.
The crane is mounted on a robust 8×4 drive Link-Belt carrier, measuring 10′ 1-1/2″ (3.09 m) in width and a wheelbase of 230-1/2″ (5.85 m). Its high-strength welded steel frame includes box-type construction with integral outrigger boxes. The fully hydraulic outrigger system uses vertical jack cylinders with integral holding valves and telescoping beams extending to 22′ 4″ (6.81 m) centerline-to-centerline. The unit retracts within a 10′ 1-1/2″ (3.09 m) width, and a standard front bumper outrigger provides 360° lifting capability.
Power is provided by a Cummins 6CTA 8.3 six-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine producing 240 hp at 2,200 rpm and 645 ft-lbs (874.62 J) of torque. This engine is mated to a Fuller Roadranger RTO-6613 transmission with 13 forward and 3 reverse speeds. It achieves a maximum travel speed of 50.4 mph (81.1 km/h) and a gradeability of 34%, making it highly mobile on highways and rough terrains.
The crane’s hydraulic system features a four-section gear-type main pump with a combined capacity of 193 gpm (730.5 lpm) and a system pressure of 2,900 psi (200.0 Bars). Hydraulic oil cooling is standard, supported by a 140-gallon (530.0 L) reservoir with built-in filtration and deaeration.
The load hoist system includes the Model 2M winch as standard, equipped with a two-speed motor and automatic brake for power up/down operation. Optional winches include a Model 2M front winch and a Model 3M winch with true gravity free-fall capability. Each drum supports a maximum line pull of 15,870 lbs (7,199 kg) and a line speed of 548 fpm (167.03 m/min) using 17″ (0.43 m) root diameter drums.
Swing is provided by a bi-directional hydraulic motor driving a two-stage planetary reducer for 360° continuous swing at 2.45 rpm. A foot-operated disc brake is standard, and a 360° swing lock with travel and pick-and-carry modes is included.
The operator cab is isolated with rubber mounts and includes all-weather insulation, sliding rear and swing-up roof windows, and a six-way adjustable seat. Instrumentation includes hydraulic oil temperature, water temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure gauges. Full crane control is provided via hand levers and foot pedals for swing braking.
The carrier cab features vinyl-lined interiors, electric wipers, lights, fire extinguisher, and air conditioning options. Rear and side view mirrors, ergonomic dash layout, and an 80-amp alternator support full operational and safety functions.
In summary, the Link-Belt HTC-1040 is a well-rounded, mobile hydraulic crane ideal for contractors needing reliable mid-range lifting capacity. With a strong boom structure, flexible jibs, and highway-capable drivetrain, it is engineered to perform on both urban jobsites and remote locations with ease.
