Product Description

The Link-Belt HTC-1170 is a versatile and rugged 70-ton hydraulic truck crane engineered for demanding lifting applications. Designed with a 4-section powered boom ranging from 38’ to 120’ (11.58 m to 36.73 m), the crane allows for excellent vertical and horizontal reach. The boom includes base, power sections, and a power-pinned fourth section, supported by dual boom cylinders and a boom rest with load moment indicator. Boom elevation ranges from -3° to 80°, giving operators the flexibility to handle low and high-angle lifts.

To extend lifting capabilities, the crane is equipped with a 30’–61’ (9.14 m – 18.59 m) offsettable lattice fly that can be set at 2°, 15°, or 30°, and an optional 75’ (22.86 m) lattice jib with offset angles of 15°, 30°, or 45°, enhancing maximum tip height and working radius. An auxiliary lifting sheave, standard boom head sheaves (up to 10 parts of line), and a two-speed hoist system provide tailored rigging and lifting options.

Mounted on a 6×4 Link-Belt-built carrier with a 119” (3.05 m) wide cab, the HTC-1170 features a 135” (3.43 m) wheelbase and a six-wheel configuration with tandem rear axles and single front axle. Suspension includes spring systems front and rear, while axles are Rockwell units (front: FL931, rear: SLHD) equipped with inter-axle differential locks. The chassis is made from welded high-strength steel with integral outrigger boxes and dual fuel tanks.

Powering the crane are several engine options, all from Cummins:

  • NTA-C310: 310 HP at 2,100 rpm (manual), 1,200 ft-lbs torque
  • NTA-C400: 400 HP at 2,100 rpm (automatic), 1,200 ft-lbs torque
  • N14-330: 330 HP at 1,950 rpm (automatic), 1,350 ft-lbs torque
  • N14-410: 410 HP at 1,950 rpm (automatic), 1,450 ft-lbs torque

All engines are six-cylinder, 855 cu.in. (14,013 cm³) diesels with a 12-volt electrical system, 100-gallon (378.54 L) fuel capacity, and high-output 13.2 cfm (0.37 m³/min) air compressors. Transmission options include the Fuller Roadranger 9-speed manual and Allison HT750DR automatic with torque converter.

The hydraulic system consists of two two-section gear-type pumps powered by the carrier engine with clutch-disconnect capability. The maximum system pressure is 3,150 psi (221.4 kg/cm²), with a 173-gallon (654.87 L) reservoir and high-pressure filtration system. Separate control valves operate boom hoist, swing, outriggers, and winches independently. A foot-activated free-fall system and a spring-release disc brake mounted on the hoist drum ensure safety and precise handling.

Line pulls for the hoist reach up to 15,870 lbs (7,199 kg), with line speeds up to 548 fpm (167.03 m/min) on 7/16” (0.43 mm) diameter wire rope, and both main and optional auxiliary winches are available. Swing rotation is bi-directional and continuous at 2.45 rpm via hydraulic motor and planetary reducer, with a swing brake and manual pin-type swing lock.

The cab is an acoustically treated, fully enclosed steel unit with a 3’0” (0.91 m) wide entrance and 4-way adjustable operator’s seat. Equipped with all standard instrumentation, wipers, lighting, and optional climate control, the cab provides a comfortable and efficient operating environment.

With its long boom reach, high-speed hoisting, and powerful diesel engines, the Link-Belt HTC-1170 is a workhorse built to meet the demands of high-capacity, highway-traveling crane applications. It balances lifting muscle with smooth mobility and precise control, making it ideal for steel erection, precast panels, heavy equipment installation, and general construction.
