Product Description

The Link-Belt HTC-840 is engineered to deliver reliable lifting performance in a durable and mobile package, well-suited for general construction, utility work, and small industrial projects. Its patented boom system consists of a base section and two power sections, plus an optional manual fourth section that extends total reach to 110 feet (33.53 m). The boom construction features diamond-shaped side plates for enhanced torsional rigidity, while 100,000 psi (689.5 MPa) steel chords ensure structural integrity under load. Boom extension is facilitated through double-acting hydraulic cylinders, offering elevations between -3° to +78°.

For lifting operations, the crane is outfitted with the Model 2M main winch system and optional 2M auxiliary or Model 3M dual winches, delivering a maximum line pull of 15,870 lbs (7,199 kg) and a line speed of 548 fpm (167 m/min) using 17-inch (0.43 m) diameter drums. Swinging is accomplished via a bi-directional hydraulic motor and planetary gear drive, capable of 360° continuous rotation at 2.45 rpm, governed by a foot-operated disc brake and cab-based swing lock.

The cab is operator-friendly, with a six-way adjustable seat, tinted safety glass windows, and ergonomic joystick controls for swing, boom functions, winches, and outriggers. Standard features include full instrumentation for hydraulic oil, water, and fuel temperature, and an environmental cab with vibration-isolating rubber mounts.

Mounted on an 8×4 truck chassis with a 228-inch (5.79 m) wheelbase, the carrier includes tandem axles—83.31 inches (2.12 m) front and 71.8 inches (1.82 m) rear—with spring and solid mount suspensions respectively. Steering is rack-and-pinion, with a turning radius of 55 feet 7 inches (16.94 m), while braking is managed through full-air cam-type systems and emergency spring sets that activate automatically below 60 psi (4.14 bar).

Power is supplied by a 6-cylinder carrier engine driving a three-section gear-type hydraulic pump capable of 185 gpm (700 lpm) at 2,900 psi (204 kg/cm²). The hydraulic system includes a 145-gallon (548.83 L) reservoir. Electrical systems include two 12V batteries with 2,230 cold cranking amps and an 80-amp alternator, supporting sealed beam lighting and auxiliary electronic systems.

Outriggers are hydraulically powered and double-box in design, retracting to an overall width of 8 feet (2.44 m) and incorporating sight-level bubbles and stowable pads. Additional options include 25-foot (7.62 m) swingaway jibs, lattice inserts, and attachments like hook blocks, air conditioning, engine heaters, and rear deck safety features. The HTC-840’s rugged design and optional configurations make it a reliable workhorse in the 40-ton class category.
