Key Features & Benefits
The Grove RT700E made its debut as a robust and operator-friendly rough terrain crane built to handle heavy-duty applications with superior control and reliability. Rated at 60 US tons (54.4 metric tons), it features a four-section, fully synchronized MEGAFORM™ boom ranging from 36 feet to 110 feet in length. The boom is designed with a single joystick for easy telescoping and achieves a maximum tip height of 119 feet without extensions.
For greater reach, the RT700E can be outfitted with a 33 ft – 56 ft bi-fold swingaway lattice extension, which is offsettable at 0°, 25°, and 45°, offering a maximum tip height of 174.5 feet. When supplemented with additional inserts of 20 ft or 40 ft, it can extend to an impressive 214 feet. An alternative fixed swingaway extension (33 ft) is also available for those who prioritize a more compact setup.
At the heart of the machine is a Tier III Cummins QSB 6.7L diesel engine producing 179 kW (240 bhp), delivering power through a Spicer 6-speed powershift transmission. The drivetrain supports a 4×4 system with fully independent hydraulic steering and multiple steering modes including front, rear, crab, and coordinated. Its rugged chassis is built from high-strength low-alloy steel, incorporating integral outrigger housings and heavy-duty towing features.
The hoisting system includes a planetary reduction hoist with a maximum single line pull of 20,250 lbs and a line speed up to 179 m/min (542 fpm). The 3/4 in (19 mm) rope has a rated line pull of 16,800 lbs and offers a stowage capacity of up to 841 ft. The crane also features an electronic hoist drum rotation indicator and cable followers to enhance safety and operator awareness.
Swing operation is managed by a planetary gear with a spring-applied, hydraulically released brake and a plunger-type mechanical lock, enabling smooth and safe 360° rotation at a maximum speed of 2.5 rpm. The hydraulic system includes three gear pumps with a combined output of 391 LPM and operating pressure of 27.6 MPa, coupled with a 132-gallon reservoir.
The RT700E is equipped with Grove’s ergonomic “E” Series cab, offering excellent visibility, climate control, and digital instrumentation, including a graphic LMI display and work area definition system. Safety features include a load moment indicator, anti-two-block system, and optional 360° mechanical swing lock.
With a maximum travel speed of 23 mph and high theoretical gradeability (75% based on an 89,951 lb GVW), this crane is well-suited for off-road conditions and construction environments requiring strong lifting performance and operational flexibility. The maximum outrigger pad load is 80,700 lbs, and the crane’s transport weight with full boom and counterweight is approximately 85,394 lbs.
The Grove RT700E stands out as a heavy-duty, high-reach solution in the 60-ton class, combining Grove’s engineering reliability with modern control systems and a powerful performance envelope.
