Kobelco RK250-5 (Panther 250)

The Kobelco RK250-5 is part of Kobelco’s respected RK series of rough terrain cranes, designed for maximum efficiency and mobility in confined or rugged work environments. This 25-ton class crane is equipped with a hydraulically powered, four-section boom that extends from 9.3 meters to a maximum length of 30.6 meters. The boom is constructed from high-tensile strength steel and operates via a dual hydraulic cylinder system with telescoping assistance cables.

For additional reach, the crane includes a 7.5-meter to 12.5-meter two-stage trussed jib, which can be offset at 5°, 25°, or 45°, providing versatile setup configurations. Lifting is managed by main and auxiliary winches, both driven by hydraulic motors and fitted with counterbalance valves for smooth and secure hoisting. The maximum hoisting speed reaches up to 124 meters per minute on the main winch.

The crane’s power comes from a Mitsubishi 6D16-TL turbocharged diesel engine delivering 184 kW at 2,800 rpm, with a peak torque of 706 Nm at 1,400 rpm. This 7,545 cc engine supports the 4WD drivetrain, which can switch to 2WD for high-speed travel, reaching speeds up to 49 km/h. Its hydro-pneumatic suspension and multiple steering modes—including 4-wheel crab and about-face steering—allow enhanced maneuverability and ground adaptability.

Safety and control systems include a multi-display moment limiter, overhoist prevention, slew and range limiters, interceptive lever lock, hydraulic safety valves, and an anti-slip seat. The all-weather cab features wide visibility, safety glazing, and integrated HVAC for operator comfort. Hydraulics are managed by a sophisticated set of five pumps and multiple control valves for separate subsystems, including winches, outriggers, and boom functions.

The RK250-5 is capable of operating with full, partial, or minimal outrigger extension, supporting flexible deployment in varied site conditions. For mobility under load, it features a stationary pick and carry mode with reduced travel speed and specified lifting limits.
