Product Description

The Terex RT 555-1 rough terrain crane stands out in the 50–55 ton lifting capacity class with its sturdy design and functional enhancements aimed at heavy-duty field operation. The crane features a four-section, 110-foot (33.5 meters) full-power, mechanically synchronized boom constructed with high-strength steel using four-plate welding for weight reduction and structural integrity. For added reach, a swing-away jib offers configurations of either 32 feet or a telescoping 33–57 feet, both offsettable at 0°, 15°, and 30°, providing a maximum tip height of 170 feet (51.8 meters).

The RT 555-1 is driven by a Cummins QSB5.9 Tier II-compliant diesel engine delivering 185 HP, mated to a full powershift transmission with six forward and six reverse speeds. This crane employs a 4x4x4 drive system supported by planetary drive/steer axles with hydraulic oscillation lockouts, ensuring excellent off-road mobility and stability. Its wheelbase is 150.5 inches (3.82 meters), with standard 26.50 x 25, 26 P.R. earthmover-style tires for superior flotation.

Hydraulic systems include three gear pumps providing a combined flow of 119 GPM (450 LPM), with dedicated circuits for winches, boom functions, and steering/swing. The main and optional auxiliary winches deliver a high line speed of up to 533 feet per minute and a line pull of 15,639 lbs (7,093 kg), with electronically monitored rotation and integral automatic brakes.

The operator’s cab is fully enclosed, environmentally sealed, and ergonomically designed with six-way adjustable suspension seating, dual-axis electro-proportional joystick controls, and a Rated Capacity Indicator (RCI 510) system. Visibility is maximized with tinted glass, a skylight, and removable front panels.

Outriggers are fully hydraulic and independently controlled, with three operational positions: fully extended at 22 feet (6.71 meters), mid-span, or fully retracted. The standard counterweight is 14,200 lbs, or 13,100 lbs with an auxiliary winch installed.

The RT 555-1 also supports robust safety and convenience features such as multiple steering modes (2-wheel, 4-wheel, and crab), service and parking brakes, and a broad range of optional equipment including work lights, heaters, air conditioning, and a rear pintle hook. Its rugged box-type chassis and reinforced superstructure make it an ideal machine for demanding industrial, construction, and utility applications.
