Liebherr LTM1160-5.1 was introduced in 2006 to be the successor to the LTM1150-5.1 and it comes with a 62 metres telescopic boom is 6 metres longer than the boom on the previous model. The lifting capacity is up to 30% higher. The 160-ton mobile crane can lift up to 11.5 tonnes with its telescopic boom and has a maximum counterweight of 46.5 tonnes. At an axle load of 12 tonnes and a gross weight of 60 tonnes, it can carry a 6.5 tonnes counterweight onboard and travel by the road on the crane itself
The chassis of LTM1160-5.1 is 12.3 metres long, which in turn has a turning radius of 10.6 metres and the crane is equipped with Liebherr’s active rear-axle steering. All five axles are steerable, therefore none is required to be raised for diagonal travel. The mobile crane comes with six steering programs.
The 160 tonnes mobile crane is driven by a Liebherr’s turbocharged six-cylinder inline engine with a data bus control system. The new-generation Liebherr engine has an output of 370 kW (503 HP) at 1,900 min-1, and a maximum torque of 2,340 Nm between 1,200 and 1,500 min-1.
The 62 metres telescopic boom comprises the pivot section and five telescoping sections extended and retracted by the TELEMATIK telescoping system. A 7 metres long lattice boom extension provides a raised pivot point for the 12.2 to 22 metres folding fly jib, which can be lengthened to 36 metres by installing two 7 metres intermediate sections. The LTM1150-6.1 then can reach heights up to 93 metres, and working radii of up to 70 metres. The folding fly jib can be attached at an angle of 0, 22.5 or 45 degree. Another option is hydraulic luffing of the fly jib between 0 and 45 degrees, if necessary at full load. The bottom section of the fly jib can be used as a 5.4 metres long erecting jib by installing a set of pulleys available as an optional extra.
This model is later being replaced by the newer version, Liebherr LTM1160-5.2.
