Product Description

The Liebherr LTM 1800 is a landmark in heavy-lift all terrain crane design, representing the pinnacle of Liebherr’s engineering during its era. Designed on a robust 8-axle carrier chassis, this 800-ton capacity crane was developed to meet the increasing demand for large lifting capacities paired with road mobility—particularly in Europe where strict transportation regulations exist. With its modular boom configuration and transport-friendly design, the LTM 1800 remains an iconic machine in the high-capacity lifting category.

At the heart of its lifting system is a 60-meter telescopic boom, constructed from one base section and three telescopic sections. All sections are hydraulically extendable under partial load. Due to its size and weight—up to 60 tonnes—the boom is designed to be detachable for road transport, allowing the carrier and superstructure to comply with European on-road restrictions. For projects requiring extreme lifting height, the crane can be equipped with a 91-meter luffing jib, extending the total lifting height to an impressive 144 meters.

The lifting performance is further enhanced by Liebherr’s heavy-duty dual winch system, axial piston hoisting motors with integrated planetary gears, and an optional derrick system with counterweight pallet. These components enable the LTM 1800 to handle massive loads across extended radii with both strength and stability. The slewing mechanism is driven hydraulically via planetary gear reducers, allowing smooth and controlled 360° rotation. Additional options include a range of fly jibs, such as the TN (21–91 m) and TF (14–63 m), enabling customized rigging for job-specific configurations.

Power for the superstructure is supplied by a Liebherr D 9406 TI-E diesel engine, delivering 300 kW (408 hp) at 1900 rpm and 1710 Nm of torque. It operates five axial piston pumps which regulate oil flow to various crane functions, allowing for simultaneous multi-function operations with precise load control. Operators manage these functions from a fully glazed, ergonomically designed cab that can be tilted for improved visibility, especially during high-angle lifts.

The crane carrier is equally sophisticated. Manufactured by Liebherr, the chassis is built using high-tensile, torsion-resistant box construction. It rides on 8 heavy-duty axles, with all wheels sprung and axles 1, 2, 5, and 6 fitted with planetary reduction gears. Axles 1, 4, 7, and 8 are steered, while axles 1, 2, 5, and 6 use single tyres, and axles 3, 4, 7, and 8 use twin tyres. The carrier is powered by a Liebherr D 9408 TI-E diesel engine, generating 440 kW (598 hp) at 2100 rpm and a torque of 2580 Nm at 1500 rpm, complying with Euro 3 emissions standards. It’s paired with an Allison CLBT 755 automatic transmission and hydrodynamic retarder, delivering five forward speeds and one reverse, along with a splitter gearbox for off-road performance.

Operator comfort and functionality are a priority throughout the design. The carrier cab is a spacious, all-steel construction with safety glass, climate control, and full instrumentation. The hydraulic suspension system on all axles provides automatic level control and ride comfort across both rough terrain and highways. Steering is managed by a ZF semi-unitary hydraulic system with dual circuits, allowing for precise maneuverability of this large crane.

Safety is fully integrated into the LTM 1800’s design. Liebherr’s LICCON system (Load Indicator and Crane Control) is standard, offering an overload indicator, hoist limit switch, angle indicator, and multiple hydraulic safety features. Safety valves are also installed to protect the hydraulic circuits from pipe or hose rupture. Additional equipment includes a counterweight dismount device, transport support for telescopic boom, and the ability to install Winch II for two-hook or derrick operations.

In conclusion, the Liebherr LTM 1800 is a high-performance, modular 800-ton all terrain crane built for demanding lifting tasks that require both extreme lifting power and high vertical reach. With its removable boom for transport, powerful twin diesel engines, and industry-leading hydraulic and safety systems, it stands as one of Liebherr’s most iconic contributions to heavy lifting in industrial and infrastructure sectors.
