Kato NK-800

The Kato NK-800 is a high-capacity 80-ton hydraulic truck crane built for performance and reliability in a wide range of lifting environments, from urban developments to large-scale industrial installations. Featuring a 5-section “Fullpower” boom system, the NK-800 extends from 12 to 44 meters using a single-lever control system, ensuring rapid deployment and safe adjustment. When equipped with the 2-section 15-meter fly jib, the crane achieves a maximum lifting height of 59 meters, making it ideal for high-reach construction and tower-based operations.

This model is built with a focus on structural integrity and low boom weight. High-tensile steel construction offers superior strength while keeping boom mass low, improving ease of handling and safety under load. The jib offers adjustable offset angles of 5° and 30°, enabling the operator to work more effectively in restricted or overhead-clearance areas.

The NK-800 is powered by a dedicated Mitsubishi 8DC8 diesel engine producing 200 PS at 2,000 rpm and 110 kgf·m of torque at 1,400 rpm, reserved solely for the crane’s lifting operations. It supports simultaneous extension, lifting, and rotation functions through a 3-section gear-type hydraulic pump system, maximizing speed and efficiency. Main and auxiliary winches reach high hoisting speeds of 56 m/min and 54 m/min, respectively, on their first layer.

Safety is a major highlight, with Kato’s ACS (Automatic Crane Stopper) system providing moment limiting, overload prevention, and operational alerts. The system continuously monitors factors like load weight, boom extension, and working radius. Safety indicators are clearly shown on the digital monitor and color-coded for quick interpretation. Redundant systems prevent accidents, including automatic winch braking, boom angle limiters, and slewing lock devices.

The crane rides on a 9-wheel carrier (model 12860) using a Mitsubishi 8DC9 V8 turbocharged diesel engine rated at 235 kW. With a top speed of 55 km/h and a turning radius of 15.4 meters, the vehicle combines long-distance travel capability with urban maneuverability. The carrier features under-slung tridem walking beam suspensions for both the front and rear axles, providing balanced load support and excellent ride comfort. Braking is handled by a 12-wheel internal expanding air system with backup exhaust brakes for downhill safety.

Outriggers span 7.6 meters and include a front jack, offering solid 360-degree lifting stability even on sloped or uneven surfaces. The cab is operator-focused with large glass panels and a comfortable layout for long hours of work. It offers intuitive displays, ergonomic controls, and excellent visibility.
