Key Features & Benefits

The SANY STC550C5 was introduced as part of SANY’s medium-capacity truck crane range aimed at providing a balance between lifting capacity, transport flexibility, and operational efficiency. The crane was developed around SANY’s proven electro-hydraulic control technology and high-strength boom structure, with emphasis on strong lifting charts and stable performance under continuous heavy-duty operation.

The crane is mounted on a four-axle 8×4 truck carrier designed and manufactured by SANY using a torsion-resistant box-type chassis fabricated from high-strength steel. Axles 1 and 2 are steering axles, while axles 3 and 4 are driven and equipped with inter-axle and wheel differential locks to improve traction and off-road mobility. The carrier utilizes a dual-stage reduction axle design with compact axle housings to improve ground clearance and accessibility on uneven terrain.

Power is provided by a Dongfeng Cummins ISLe340 30 inline six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine compliant with Euro III emission standards. The engine produces 250 kW at 2,100 rpm and develops maximum torque of 1,425 Nm between 1,100 and 1,400 rpm. The engine is paired with a FAST 9-speed manual transmission equipped with synchronizers, providing a wide gear ratio range suitable for both site travel and highway transport.

The STC550C5 has an overall transport length of 14,020 mm, width of 2,650 mm, and height of 3,800 mm, with total gross vehicle weight approximately 41,000 kg. Maximum road speed reaches 90 km/h while maximum gradeability is rated at 47%. Minimum turning radius is approximately 12 m, with a boom tip turning radius of 15.1 m. The crane uses 315/80R22.5 radial tubeless tires for improved load-bearing capacity and durability.

The superstructure incorporates a five-section U-shaped telescopic boom manufactured from high-strength steel plates using an anti-distortion boom design intended to improve structural rigidity and operational stability. The boom extends from a basic length of 11.6 m to a maximum length of 45 m. A lattice jib of up to 16 m can be installed, increasing maximum lifting height to approximately 61.5 m. The jib can be installed at offset angles of 0°, 15°, and 30° to improve operational flexibility.

The crane delivers a maximum lifting capacity of 55 tonnes at a minimum working radius of 3 m. Maximum lifting moment on the basic boom reaches 2,009 kN·m, while the fully extended boom delivers 1,082 kN·m. SANY also stated that the fully extended boom can lift up to 9.5 tonnes, positioning the crane competitively within its class.

The outrigger system adopts an H-type configuration with fully hydraulic telescoping outriggers. Outrigger span measures 6.05 m longitudinally and 7.4 m transversely, providing stable lifting performance across a wide working area. The outriggers are fabricated from high-strength fine-grain steel plates, while the vertical cylinders are equipped with dual hydraulic locks for additional safety protection.

The STC550C5 features a counterweight system consisting of a 5.2-ton fixed counterweight and a 2.3-ton movable counterweight section. One notable feature is the crane’s ability to travel with full counterweight installed, reducing setup time between job sites.

The hydraulic system utilizes a large-displacement load-sensitive piston pump combined with a large-capacity hydraulic radiator to ensure continuous operation under high workloads without overheating. SANY equipped the crane with high-quality hydraulic components including the main pump, control valves, winch motors, slewing motors, and balance valves to improve reliability and operational smoothness.

The main control valve incorporates flow compensation and load feedback control functions, enabling stable and precise single and combined hydraulic movements under various working conditions. The crane also uses a hydraulic variable slewing control system that improves slewing smoothness and fine control during lifting operations. Maximum slewing speed reaches 2 rpm.

Main and auxiliary winches achieve maximum single-line rope speeds of 125 m/min using 18 mm diameter wire ropes. Maximum single-line pulling force is rated at 5 tonnes for both winches. Full boom extension takes approximately 100 seconds while full retraction requires approximately 120 seconds. Boom luffing time is approximately 60 seconds upward and 90 seconds downward.

The crane uses a passive gravity-assisted luffing system designed to reduce energy consumption while improving boom force distribution. The luffing system uses a single-cylinder front-hinged arrangement combined with an electro-proportional balance valve for smoother operation.

The operator’s cab was designed with emphasis on visibility, comfort, and operational convenience. The cab includes panoramic skylight glazing, soft-touch interior trim, adjustable seating, air conditioning, and electric windshield wipers. A 7-inch display screen integrates the operational monitoring system and crane control information into a centralized interface.

The carrier cab also features a fully integrated ergonomic steel structure with vibration isolation and sound insulation. Standard equipment includes heating and cooling air-conditioning, stereo radio system, and complete instrumentation.

Safety systems include a load moment indicator with analytical mechanics-based calculation algorithms capable of achieving rated lifting accuracy within ±3%. Additional safety features include hydraulic balance valves, relief valves, dual hydraulic locks, anti-two-block systems, three-wrap protection devices for the winches, boom angle and length sensors, pressure sensors, and automatic overload warning systems.

Optional equipment available for the STC550C5 includes an anemometer, reversing camera, spark arrestor, and engine air intake shutoff valve for specialized operating environments.
