Key Features & Benefits

The Grove RT540E rough terrain crane offers solid performance and advanced operator-friendly features in the 35-ton capacity class. It is equipped with a four-section, full-power boom that extends hydraulically from 9.8 meters (32 feet) to 31 meters (102 feet). The boom uses a rectangular profile constructed from 100 ksi steel, providing superior strength-to-weight ratio and maximizing structural performance.

For additional reach and flexibility, the RT540E offers an optional 7.9 m – 13.7 m (26 ft – 45 ft) offsettable telescopic swingaway extension, bringing the maximum tip height to 47 meters (154 feet). Boom elevation ranges from -3° to +76°, controlled by a hydraulic double-acting cylinder with integral holding valves for smooth operation.

The RT540E is powered by a Tier 4 Final Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine producing 122 kW (164 hp) at 2300 rpm. The crane’s hydraulic system uses high-capacity piston and gear pumps with a combined flow of 316.5 L/min (83.6 gpm), driving three-section pressure-compensated valve banks. Main and auxiliary winches provide maximum single-line pull of 11,640 lb (5,280 kg) and single-line speeds up to 136 m/min (445 fpm).

The crane’s cab is designed for operator comfort and visibility, featuring a full-vision structure with acoustical lining, tinted safety glass, air conditioning, and ergonomic controls including electronic joysticks and a jog dial interface. The Crane Control System (CCS) provides real-time data display for boom angle, load moment, radius, tip height, and anti-two-block protection, with the ability to define working areas and limit operational zones for increased safety.

On the job site, the RT540E’s four-wheel drive and four steering modes (front only, rear only, crab, and coordinated) give it exceptional maneuverability, with an outside turning radius of 5.8 meters (19.1 feet). It also offers impressive gradeability of 119% and a maximum travel speed of 40 km/h (25 mph).

Other features include automatic axle oscillation lockouts, 362 mm (14.25 in) square outrigger pads, and a CraneSTAR asset management system for remote monitoring and fleet management. The standard 4,305 kg (9,490 lb) counterweight is pinned to the superstructure, and various auxiliary options are available including additional hoists, floodlights, cold weather packages, and more.

Overall, the Grove RT540E combines durable construction, intuitive controls, and reliable lifting performance, making it a versatile solution for medium-capacity rough terrain lifting in industrial, construction, and utility applications.
