Kobelco RK160-3 (Lynx 160)

The Kobelco RK160-3, branded as the Lynx 160, is a 16-ton rough terrain crane designed for highly maneuverable lifting operations in urban or limited-access environments. It features a 4-section main boom that extends from 6.7 m to 25.0 m, and a 6.5 m jib for extended reach. Maximum rated capacity is 16,000 kg at 3.0 m radius using 6-part line reeving. It can lift 12,000 kg at 6.0 m and still manage 5,000 kg at 15.0 m.

The boom elevation ranges from -5° to 78°, raised in approximately 28 seconds, and offers a maximum lifting height of 26.7 m. When using the jib, total lifting height increases to 32.7 m, with a maximum working radius of 22.7 m. The hoisting system delivers speeds of up to 85 m/min on the main winch and 29 m/min on the auxiliary.

This crane is powered by a 4-cylinder Hino J05E diesel engine, producing 136 kW (185 PS) at 2800 rpm and 628 Nm of torque at 1600 rpm, driving the hydraulic system efficiently. The crane includes both main and auxiliary winches, with wire rope capacities of 135 m (main) and 65 m (auxiliary), and optional high-strength ropes available.

Built on a 4×4 carrier, the RK160-3 uses a 2-speed transmission and supports multiple steering modes including 2-wheel, 4-wheel, and crab steering. It features a tight minimum turning radius of 4.8 m, high gradeability of 0.6 (tanθ), and a top travel speed of 49 km/h, making it agile on-site and capable of road travel between job sites.

The outigger system is a hydraulically controlled, 4-point type with multiple extension settings (5.1 m/4.8 m/4.2 m/3.2 m). The crane is also equipped with anti-two block, AML safety limiter, and operational interlocks, ensuring safe lifting operations. Additional features include winch drum indicators, level gauges, hydraulic safety valves, and operator-friendly displays.

With a vehicle width of just 2.2 m, the RK160-3 is exceptionally compact. It has a gross vehicle weight of approx. 19.5 tonnes, and a wheelbase of 2.95 m. This makes it especially suitable for narrow or indoor job sites where larger cranes are not viable.
