Product Description
The Liebherr LTM 1160 all-terrain crane is a robust and highly mobile lifting solution that combines significant lifting power with road-worthy mobility. Built on a rigid torsion-resistant box-type frame made of high-tensile structural steel, this crane offers full highway capability and off-road versatility, supported by 6 heavy-duty axles, all sprung and steerable in various configurations. The suspension is hydropneumatic with automatic leveling and load equalization between axle pairs (1+2, 3+4, 5+6), with hydraulic locking for added lifting stability.
Powering the undercarriage is a Daimler-Benz OM 442 LA diesel engine—a 12-cylinder, water-cooled powerplant rated at 390 kW (530 hp) and 2079 Nm of torque. It drives an Allison CLBT 754 automatic transmission with 5 forward speeds and integrated torque converter. A splitter gearbox provides differential and off-road range, and dynamic retarder braking ensures controlled descents even under load.
The crane superstructure is powered independently by a 6-cylinder Daimler-Benz OM 362 LA diesel engine, rated at 132 kW (180 hp) and 608 Nm of torque. It supports all crane operations via a diesel-hydraulic system with four axial piston swashplate pumps, automatic output regulation, and a 300-liter fuel capacity. This dual-engine setup enables simultaneous or independent operation of the upper and lower sections for greater efficiency on site.
The main telescopic boom consists of one base section and three telescopic sections, extendable to a maximum length of 45 meters (147.6 feet) under partial load. Extension and retraction are hydraulically controlled via a pivot-mounted boom system, ensuring precision and durability. The main winch is powered by an axial piston motor with hydraulic drum rotation, spring-loaded braking, and integrated planetary gearing.
Boom configurations can be expanded with optional folding and lattice jibs. The folding jib extends from 13 m to 20 m, and various lattice options include luffing lattice jib (17.5 m – 56 m) and lattice fly jib (14 m – 35 m), allowing the LTM 1160 to handle tall or complex lifts. A maximum boom tip height over 100 meters is achievable with these extensions.
The cab is constructed from steel and includes safety glazing, full instrumentation, and ergonomic controls. It is equipped with standard safety features such as hoist limit switches, radius indicators, and safety valves for both hydraulic and mechanical systems.
The crane uses 19 single tires, with an available size of 16.00 R 25 X VC. Standard tires are 14.00 R 24 X VC. All axles are driven, and most are steerable, providing tight turning radii and enhanced maneuverability in urban or confined sites. Steering is controlled via ZF semi-integral hydraulic power steering with servo assistance and a dual-circuit system.
With its strong lifting capacity, flexible boom configurations, and all-terrain mobility, the Liebherr LTM 1160 is suited for infrastructure projects, industrial plant erection, and heavy structural assembly across varied environments.
