The Tadano ATF 120-5 is a 120-ton all terrain crane featuring a 49-meter five-section main boom and a swing-away jib extension up to 30.1 meters. Powered by dual Mercedes-Benz diesel engines and equipped with advanced hydro-pneumatic suspension and multi-mode drive, it’s engineered for heavy-duty lifting with excellent road and off-road mobility.

Product Description
The Tadano ATF 120-5 is a high-capacity, versatile 120-ton all terrain crane designed for reliable lifting in demanding construction and industrial environments. Built on a robust box-type, torsion-resistant frame made of high tensile steel, the crane’s lower carrier features a fully hydraulic 5-axle configuration, offering exceptional mobility and stability both on-road and off-road.
The crane is equipped with a five-section telescopic main boom, constructed from fine-grained high-tensile steel. It features one base section and four telescopic sections, extending from 12.5 meters to 49.0 meters fully hydraulically under load. For even greater reach, it includes a swing-away telescopic lattice boom extension from 9.5 to 16.2 meters with 5°, 15°, or 30° offsets, plus a 7.5-meter stinger and 6-meter insert, allowing a maximum boom system length of up to 30.1 meters.
Boom operation is powered by one double-acting hydraulic cylinder with an integral holding valve, while the main hoist utilizes an axial piston motor with planetary reduction and a spring-loaded, multi-disc brake. Slewing is powered by a constant displacement motor driving a three-stage planetary gear system, with variable speed up to 1.5 rpm and a foot-actuated parking brake for secure control.
The ATF 120-5 is powered by two EURO 1 Mercedes-Benz diesel engines. The carrier engine is an 8-cylinder OM 442 LA rated at 370 kW (503 hp) at 2100 rpm, producing 2020 Nm of torque. It is paired with a ZF 16S220 A mechanical transmission with hydrodynamic torque converter and 16 forward plus 2 reverse gears. The crane superstructure is powered by a 6-cylinder OM 366 A engine rated at 112 kW (153 hp) at 2000 rpm.
The crane’s drive system is 10×6 for off-road and 10×8 for on-road, with axles 2 through 5 all driven. The first axle is steered only, while the second, third, fourth, and fifth axles are all steered and driven, offering advanced mobility with a transverse differential lock. Suspension is hydro-pneumatic with automatic levelling.
Braking is handled by a dual-circuit air system, with parking brakes on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th axles. Steering uses a ZF dual-circuit semi-block system with booster and emergency pump for reliability in challenging conditions. The crane rolls on 10×16.00 R 25 off-road tires.
The operator’s cab on the carrier is constructed from a composite of steel and fiberglass with wide visibility, cushioned adjustable seats, and modern instrumentation. The crane cab is a panoramic all-steel cab with safety glazing, heating, and ergonomic controls for smooth lifting operations.
Electrical systems are 24V with two batteries. Standard safety features include load moment indicator (LMD), lower and upper limit switches, drum rotation indicators, and holding valves on all critical cylinders to prevent pipe or hose rupture.
With its long reach, multiple jib configurations, robust drivetrain, and extensive safety features, the Tadano ATF 120-5 is a dependable and flexible lifting machine suited for infrastructure projects, industrial construction, and utility applications.
