Tadano GR-500XL-1
The Tadano GR-500XL-1 is a 50-ton (45.4 metric ton) rough terrain crane with a 33-meter four-section synchronized boom and optional bi-fold jib up to 15.2 meters. Engineered for compact mobility, excellent lifting precision, and advanced electronic controls, it delivers robust performance for lifting tasks in tough environments.

Product Description
Built for high performance and reliability in rugged conditions, the Tadano GR-500XL-1 is a 50-ton class rough terrain crane offering impressive lifting power and reach. The crane is equipped with a full-power, four-section synchronized telescopic boom extending from 10.2 meters to 33.0 meters. Constructed from round hexagonal box sections, the boom is supported by a hydraulic telescoping system using double-acting cylinders and synchronized cable extensions and retractions, offering controlled extension speeds and soft-stop features.
For added flexibility, the GR-500XL-1 features an optional bi-fold lattice-type jib measuring either 8.8 or 15.2 meters. The jib is stowable on the side of the boom and can be deployed at offset angles of 5°, 25°, or 45°, extending the crane’s maximum tip height significantly. A stowable auxiliary lifting sheave can also be mounted for single-line work.
The hoisting system includes a variable-speed main hoist with a grooved drum powered by a hydraulic axial piston motor. It can handle up to 597 feet of 3/4-inch wire rope and deliver a maximum line pull of 14,272 lbs (6,474 kg) with line speeds reaching 472 feet/minute (144 m/min). An optional auxiliary hoist provides similar performance, and both winches are equipped with automatic brakes, drum rotation indicators, and cable followers.
Swing is controlled via a hydraulic axial piston motor connected to a planetary gear reduction system, offering 360° continuous rotation at a speed of 2.7 rpm. The crane features a positive swing lock and Tadano’s twin swing system for smooth, controlled movement during pick-and-carry operations.
The GR-500XL-1 is powered by a Mitsubishi 6M60-TLA3B 6-cylinder turbocharged and after-cooled diesel engine producing 267 horsepower (200 kW) and 579 ft-lbs of torque at 1,400 rpm. The engine drives a full automatic transmission with six forward and two reverse gears. The crane supports both 4×4 and 4×2 drive modes, reaching a top speed of 50 km/h, and it operates on 23.5-25 20PR off-road tires.
The carrier is supported by semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension with hydraulic lockout and four hydraulic outriggers. These outriggers offer three extension positions, ranging up to 7.0 meters center-to-center, and are automatically recognized by the Tadano AML-L system, which adjusts load charts accordingly.
The operator’s cab is steel-framed, weatherproof, and mounted on the superstructure. It features a tilt-telescoping steering wheel, fully adjustable seat with high back and armrests, pilot-pressure control levers, and a full instrumentation package. Comfort features include heating, optional air conditioning, and tinted safety glass. The AML-L load moment indicator provides continuous feedback on boom angle, load radius, tip height, and outrigger extension, with visual and audio overload alerts.
With advanced lifting control systems, compact mobility, and powerful performance, the Tadano GR-500XL-1 is ideal for industrial, utility, and infrastructure jobs requiring precision lifting in confined or challenging terrain.
