Product Description
The Demag AC 700 all-terrain crane is a high-capacity, 9-axle machine developed as an upgrade to the earlier AC 650 model. With a maximum lifting capacity of 700 tonnes, it is designed for heavy lifting tasks across diverse work environments. It comes equipped with a 60 m main boom constructed of fine-grain structural steel, which can be extended using optional fixed and luffing jibs. These include up to 50 m fixed jib and luffing jib combinations ranging from 24 m to 96 m, allowing a wide range of configurations. A Superlift (SSL) attachment further enhances lifting performance, especially for long boom and jib setups.
The carrier unit is powered by a water-cooled, 8-cylinder DaimlerChrysler OM 502 LA engine producing 480 kW (653 HP) and 2800 Nm of torque, while the superstructure uses a separate OM 906 LA engine rated at 205 kW (279 HP). The crane runs on an 18-wheel, 9-axle configuration, with advanced ZF Tronic transmission and hydropneumatically suspended axles. Steering is dual-circuit with selectable 1-5 and 7-9 axle steering. These features provide excellent on-road mobility and precision on job sites.
The AC 700 features a fully hydraulic four-point outrigger system with automatic leveling and indicators, along with integrated outriggers extending up to 8.6 m. The crane cab is ergonomically designed with joystick controls, full instrumentation, and air-conditioning. The electronic control system includes load indication, diagnostic tools, display for boom positions, wind speed, hook load, and outrigger pressures. Additional safety features include hoist and lowering limiters, pressure relief, hook load indicator, and anemometer.
The AC 700 is equipped with Hoist I and optional Hoist II systems, using axial piston motors with planetary gear reducers and integrated disc brakes. The hoisting mechanism includes sealed rope drums and integrated controls to support high loads with safe, controlled operation.
A notable milestone in the crane’s legacy is its first delivery to Belgium-based rental company Kranen Michielsens in December 2002, as part of a package of twelve Demag cranes. The AC 700 remains a prominent choice in large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects due to its combination of power, reach, and versatility.
