Product Description
Unveiled as the successor to one of Liebherr’s most successful mobile cranes, the LTM 1650-8.1 is a high-capacity 700-ton all-terrain crane engineered to provide greater lifting power and flexibility on job sites with limited setup space or high reach requirements. Its design centers around modularity, roadability, and superior lifting performance, with two interchangeable telescopic booms—a 54-meter standard boom and an extended 80-meter boom.
The crane’s main telescopic boom extends hydraulically and is engineered with Liebherr’s Telematik single-cylinder telescoping system, allowing rapid extension and high stiffness under load. When combined with a luffing jib (24 to 91 meters), fixed jib, or heavy-duty jib, the LTM 1650-8.1 can achieve hook heights over 150 meters and radii exceeding 100 meters—ideal for wind power, industrial erection, and bridge work.
The LTM 1650-8.1 sits on an 8-axle all-terrain carrier, with a gross vehicle weight configured for global transport regulations. It features Liebherr’s innovative VarioBallast® system, allowing the ballast radius to be hydraulically adjusted between 6.3 and 8.4 meters. This provides maximum stability in tight spaces without sacrificing lifting capacity. VarioBase® further enhances job site safety and performance by automatically adjusting lifting capacities based on actual outrigger positions.
For power, the carrier is equipped with a Mercedes-Benz 8-cylinder diesel engine producing 505 kW (687 hp), compliant with the latest emission standards. The travel system includes a 12-speed ZF TraXon gearbox with intarder and torque converter, offering smooth road mobility and high traction on rough terrain. The crane’s maximum travel speed is approximately 85 km/h, depending on local regulations and configuration.
The superstructure is powered by a separate 6-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine generating 270 kW (367 hp), delivering hydraulic power to the hoist, slewing, and boom extension systems. The crane’s slewing system provides precision positioning with continuous 360° rotation, and the hoist winch offers high rope speeds suitable for tall lifts.
The LTM 1650-8.1 is equipped with a full Liebherr LICCON2 control system featuring touchscreen displays, load moment limiting, data logging, and remote diagnostics. The operator cab offers advanced ergonomics, panoramic visibility, and climate control, ensuring comfort during long operations.
Designed with transportability in mind, the crane’s modular boom and counterweight components can be removed and transported on standard trailers, allowing compliance with strict axle load limits and simplifying global deployment.
The Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 sets new standards for mobility, performance, and flexibility in the 700-ton mobile crane class. Whether tackling large-scale industrial lifts or high-altitude wind installations, it delivers reliability, reach, and lifting power in a compact and innovative design .
