Grove GMK5220

The Grove GMK5220 is a powerful 5-axle all-terrain crane in the 220-tonne capacity class, engineered for versatility, ease of transport, and strong lifting performance. This crane features Grove’s advanced MEGATRAK™ suspension system, providing excellent off-road capability and roadability without requiring additional transport or setup. The carrier is powered by a robust Mercedes-Benz OM502LA engine rated at 390 kW (530 HP), paired with a ZF AS-Tronic automated manual transmission offering 16 forward and 2 reverse speeds. The hydro-pneumatic suspension with all-wheel steering ensures exceptional maneuverability even in restricted spaces.

The GMK5220 is equipped with a six-section, full-power MEGAFORM® boom that extends from 13.3 meters up to 68 meters, allowing heavy lifting at significant working radii. For even greater reach, it includes a 12 to 21-meter hydraulic swingaway jib, with additional extensions possible to achieve a maximum tip height of 108 meters. Load charts on long boom configurations are particularly strong, making the GMK5220 ideal for tall and distant lifting tasks such as tower erection, industrial installation, and infrastructure works.

The crane’s superstructure is powered by a separate Mercedes-Benz OM906LA engine delivering 210 kW (279 HP). The load-sensing hydraulic system ensures precise and smooth control over all crane functions, and the single-slewing planetary gearbox provides controlled rotation under load. The operator cab is ergonomically designed with full-vision windows, an air-suspension seat, and an intuitive CCS (Crane Control System) interface, providing efficient and comfortable working conditions.

Its counterweight system is designed for modular adjustment depending on lifting needs, and it supports shared counterweight compatibility across other Grove models. The GMK5220 also includes advanced safety features such as load moment indicators, hoist limiters, and automatic engine management for fuel efficiency.
